One of the finest men and greatest football players has passed away. The Kansas Comet, a/k/a Galloping Gale Sayers was pure excitement. He wrote a wonderful book called I Am Third which I read many times when I was a kid. It was made into the movies Brian’s Song, which still makes me cry every time. Sad day for the country to lose him.

Maybe not the best running back but definitely the most elusive running back I ever saw play. RIP sir. :(

And if you don't cry during Brain's Song you are dead inside.

I'm saddened, but happy for him at the same time. I remember my Dad telling stories about the Bears from the 1960's, and the story of true friendship always came up.

RIP Comet!

I only ever saw video of Sayers play, but studied the history of the NFL as a kid and admire him a lot. I used to compare the fluidity of Reggie Bush’s (college) running style to his. Both are unfortunate examples of how brutal the game is on the body of a running back.

RIP, sir.
