Nothing really new here. But I just had to re-clean my Cleveland Horseshoe chips. I cleaned them a few years ago when I got them at the initial Chip Room offering. They have been in constant use at one of our local games, 2+ times weekly. Finally I had to clean them again. I think I have gotten my money's worth.

So, who else has had to repeat ultrasonic cleaning for dirt and gunk acquired by the chips while in your possession?

Wow.... I am actually surprised at the level of finger gunk that occurred outside the casino.
I figured that happened over many more years with daily hard use.

Dirty Jobs?

With chip shufflers im not surprised at this. I always have a barrel of chips on my desk when I play online poker (substantial amount of hours), and the chips do get dirty after a while. I can see this happening in a homegame with heavy use as well. Depends a lot your crew shuffles the chips constantly or not though.

Most used chips (but clean) get dirty faster during use than mint chips, especially if they are not oiled before being put into play. Mineral oil will help keep them cleaner.

Courage's cash chips see a lot of heavy home game use, and he periodically needs to clean his chips. I have so many different tournament sets that none ever see enough play individually to warrant cleaning (yet).

I’ve cleaned mine periodically this is my first time with ultrasonic but I’ve done it with a toothbrush before 3 times. My players smoke, eat and touch chips, my game is every week no misss !!

Now I’m thinking of doing that water/oil trick

Do you recommend that water oil trick used to oil multiple chips at once?

IMO, don't bother with the water. Put some mineral oil on a clean lint free cloth, pick up a barrel at a time, and oil the edges. Wipe the excess with a second cloth. Next barrel.
If you feel the faces need oil for protection/restoration, then oil each chip them individually, being careful not to oil the inlay area. Wipe excess with clean cloth.

The water is a step that doesn't really help too much, and has the added plus of sometimes effing the whole thing up.
