Had a small amount of time in Reno, managed to do some looking around and picked up a few dollar chips to see how they compared. Pretty self-explanatory. Figured it would be a good way for me as a newbie in chipping to get a hand-on feel for some of the various chips (and also see how hard/easy it would be to obtain chips).

I kind of like the Circus Circus chip for some reason, although I think the Sparks Nugget chip is also a fairly clean design. I didn't have the opportunity to really gamble, this was more of a grab-a-chip-n-go situation. Am NOT a fan of the Silver Legacy chip. And the Carson Nugget chip was n-a-s-t-y! With as much dirt/grime as it showed (I cleaned these), I can't say that I'd recommend that faux gold color for a chip.

Didn't know you could still pluck those carson nuggets.. that is arc yellow! I've been trying to finish out a rack of those for quite some time

While the fam was upstairs at Circus Circus, I 'excused' myself for a minute to sneak off downstairs. No table games open. Went to the cage, manned by one very bored employee. Asked her if she had any chips, she said they were all in lockup as there wasn't any tables open. She further volunteered that tables hadn't been opened in almost 3 weeks. She was happy to talk, and I was happy to listen to her, and then she said "Oh, I actually do have some chips, someone came and cashed these in". Proceeded to pull out a barrel of 1's, and I told her I'd gladly take them off her hands, and tipped her as well. She was happy and I was happy.

Well, they're not much of a chip - from what I saw in the table rack. No edges at all, beat to heck. I simply asked to buy one for one for a souvenir, they didn't even blink.

I asked a helpful looking cage worker at the Eldorado if they had any Circus Circus chips, they directed me over to the Silver Legacy, said all Circus Circus chips were sorted there (when table games weren't being played at the Circus Circus). Went there, politely inquired if I could pick up a few chips "for souvenirs", got a look or two and this "aged silvery-maned" female supervisor came over, acting not-happy, and barked "How many?!". I said, "well, a few of each?". Which apparently was the wrong answer, because then she barked "NO MORE THAN ONE OF EACH!!!". Lol, acted like I was trying to steal the last cig outta her pack or something. Anyway, I kept it nice and polite, smiled, and thanked her for the 3 chips she sold me. As per other threads, I'd guess that the ability to purchase a rack or two depends on who's working...

I'll most likely end up down around Reno again within the next few months (for an adult trip, hopefully), and if I end up over by Carson I'd be glad to try and pick up some of the Carson Nugget chips for you. New casino opening in Sparks in August that I'm hoping will provide me with some cheap/free hotel nights (Legends Bay casino). Obviously interested in seeing what their chips look like as well

I'm curious to see what happens with the Reno Circus Circus. Although they did update the gaming machines once Eldorado/Caesar's acquired the property (they still had some coin in/out slots a couple years back), there hasn't been much else happening. Well, I guess they have done a bunch of room remodeling. There's an adjacent parking lot that they'd put in a permit request to turn into a small fam water park - but covid and the downturn put that on hold. Used to be you could play cheaper table games at Circus Circus (compared to Eldorado and Silver Legacy).
