Tourney Rebuy VS Add-on OR Both (1 Viewer)

Looking for advice form more tournament savvy players here, the Knights of Columbus at my church are doing a charity Poker tourney at the end of next month and we are planning on doing rebuys until the first break. Then the subject of add ons was brought up. I have done several tourneys with rebuys, but none with add ons, let alone both.

starting stacks will be T15K maybe T30K(add 5 T1K and 2 T5K chips to each stack) depending on the number of participants we have

I figured rebuys would be the same as starting stacks and add ons are ?????

here is what I am planning

8 x T25 (maybe 12)
8 x T100(maybe 12)
6 x T500 (maybe 5)
6 x T1000
1 x T5000
----------
29 chips = T15K

Using 15-minute blind levels, a 20-player 15K event (or 10-player 30K event) will typically finish in less than 4.5 hours (L18) plus breaks.

When I do my charity tourneys, I allow unlimited rebuys through round 1 (6 levels) and allow a rebuy of the starting stack. It makes the chips flow and adds cash to the schools pocket

I offer add-ons at the break and I charge half the buy in for half the chips of the starting stack. It might not be the "right" thing value wise to take the add on, but most of my players do and it adds to the overall pot.

Consider running a smaller start stack to encourage more rebuys.

Also add-ons should be greater than starting stack due to the loss of value of adding a starting stack when blinds get larger.

I'm not sure how to calculate a reasonable add on amount.

In the past I haven't allowed rebuys until you are felted thus the lesser add on theory...you can add on to any stack. you can only rebuy if you are a out

rebuy as you are re-buying your starting stack

an add on as you are adding on to your stack

Yeah but what I mean by my statement is lets say your re buys run for one hour. At the end of that one hour your blind levels have jumped and your effective chips have dropped, so you had 200bb to start, but now an add on for the same amount is worth much less then 200bb (depends on the structure). How late in the event you stop addons the addon price, the blinds at the addon time would all take into effect a fair addon amount.

I always look at the value of my chips, Im not paying the same entry fee that gave me 200bb to give me an extra 10bb later in the event

Ah I understand your point now, I have played in several casino tourneys and they all rebuy for the same amount as your initial buy in. I have not played in a tourney that had an add on.

Rebuys yes always the same amount for the same price (sometimes I have played half stack rebuys for half price)
