Do you have the following chips available for trade (barrels or racks)?

I keep thinking the way we manage our inventory available for trade (or sale) is rather inefficient. I recently posted a bunch of stuff for trade and after two days, it’s now buried under 3 pages of WTB/WTS ads - fair enough - maybe my bait is dogsh*t or my ask completely unrealistic or both. Trades can take a while to materialize anyway so there is no point bumping the thread everyday. But I think it would be hugely beneficial if there is a way to keep the information contained in the thread (what’s available) easy to access weeks/months after it has been initially posted and aggregate that info with what other chippers have for trade.

So…This is just an idea. We would create pinned threads in a separate section in the classifieds for example, each containing a poll that allows user to indicate if they have barrel or rack quantity available for sale? In order to avoid 20k pinned thread, your inventory should fit in a predefined category, for example:
- NAGB
- California Casino/Cardroom
- Cruise
- Nevada
- TCR sales
- Solids
- etc
With each category containing a list of options to chose from. Now that’s obviously going to be a bit of work (putting that list together and setup the poll) but I think it would help make things a bit easier to track. Polls would be public, so if you vote for something you have available for trade (or sale depending on whether we want to allow that), everyone will be able to see it. Now one thing we should be able to do is to modify the poll as new racks of chips become available (thinking NAGB and TCR)

As an example, I have setup a poll for the Lady Lucks and some HSI available for trade or sale, which would be part of the « TCR » thread/category

Thoughts?

How about a trade section in the pictures, where we can post pictures of the stuff we are trading.

People postvthat they are trading or looking for some kind of HSI Jack Indiana Primary RHC Cleveland Hot Stamp Near Mint Cincinnati Secondary stuff and nobody knows what they are talking about without pictures. There is just so much of that stuff it’s hard to keep track of whatever it is.

This seems like good way to see who is serious about trading, especially if they take the time to answer a poll.

Maybe have the title of the trade thread:

Do you have the following chips available for trade : (Insert chips you are looking for)

I think it would be better if you left only a few people (admin or else) amend the polls just to make sure the format across the platform is consistent.

Would be great to overlay that information with pictures I agree but I’d keep these polls limited to what people have for trade. Because « everyone » wants Starlite, RVCLs and now Baby Tigers but very few people have them.

I think you overestimate “everyone” I don’t have any interest in any of those chips you listed. I’d have to see a picture of most of those to even know what you are talking about. How about cards mold art?

I think the biggest issue is people simply not being motivated to trade or sell are not really paying attention to Trade/Wanted threads unless the title just happens to catch their eye or curiosity on a whim. As it stands, trade threads are usually still on the first page of that sub-category if bumped within a week; second page is around a month. Very few people click anything besides just "Classifieds". If they're not clicking on a simple particular category, they're likely not filling out anything. Then there's an added layer of people keeping their chip inventory basically secret or only known to a few others, especially with regard to top tier chips (which you're after), and it seems like an uphill battle. I'm personally happy to give anything a shot though.

Not the proper use of the poll feature. It will create issues in the long term, and not be great for the search.

There are other ways to improve the section. I'm working on some things, both built into the core software, and some custom mods.

Here is an example where the 1st post stays at the top of each page, no matter how many pages a thread has.

Lol I know that’s why I wrote it as «everyone » because obviously not everyone is looking for popular - or unpopular depending on your opinion - chips. But it is a lot easier to lead a conversation about trading with what’s available than what’s not if that makes sense.

My two cents - trading is bullshit when people buy and hoard racks they don’t even want, just to use as trade bait.

Exactly. Let’s encourage more trading

I don’t know if this makes any sense but I personally wish classifieds was divided into three separate fora. If I’m curious about a trade I only want to see trades, if I’m curious about what people are looking for that’s all they care about, and usually I just wanna have a look at what people are selling and don’t care about the previous two. In some ways that section is also just too busy stuff gets buried so quickly and a good percentage of the threads are just bumps to get them back up and visible.

also turn that music down and get off my lawn.

I thought it was an elegant/clean way to show interest - which you could remove my « changing your vote ». But maybe there is a technical hurdle I’m not aware of?
PCFers are particularly good at derailing threads so the moment you rely on members marking their interest by replying to a post, you’re also taking the risk that it gets lost in between a bunch of gifs, rants about something non chipping related etc

A more robust solution would be to integrate the « inventory data » in the PCF chip database which already has a bunch of sets added?

Cool! Can we get each reply and sub reply indented so we can see the entire conversation in the 1st page? Like just the subject of the post in each line?

What like the ChipBoard?
