Raspberry Pi slot machines? Video poker? (3 Viewers)

Now that my 2020 Vegas trips are off the books, I'm slightly more interested in getting some VP practice in on a legit program. Hoping someone has gone down this path here with all of the great game room builds.

Not video poker but me and a buddy made this from a broken machine. We used a pi and turned it into an arcade machine with 1000's of games :cool

Raspberry Pi has been running MAME cabinets for years. Just get your hands on the software and someone (maybe me) will find a way to make it work.

Yeah just looking for anyone who would have a good VP software, and also love to see people's custom builds!

Awesome! Was pondering a 2 player tabletop before I ended up with a real slot machine that is going in the same space, so the cabinet project is on hold. It was from a broken arcade cabinet? I'm assuming based on that picture that you swapped the display with a monitor and filled in the extra space with graphic overlay?

I have a little portable RetroPie setup that I take on cruises and road trips (for me and the kids), but I've never tried building a slot/video poker machine around one. Sounds like a fun project.

It started off life as a fruit machine (not sure if that's just a UK term or not). So we removed the glass panels, rollers etc then replaced with a screen and flat surface for the new control pads. We got them from eBay - matching joystick and button sets.
It's great fun :cool

That thing looks like a mess...of fun. I've seen these in a few pubs while in the GB, but never paid much attention. Next time I'll have to see what the deal is all about!

If you have iPhone or iPad, there’s an app called WinPoker. It’s $10, but the best video poker game & learning tool I’ve seen. You can set it to any type of VP...jacks or better, super aces, deuces wild, etc. you can even customize payouts to match whatever machines are at your local casino.
BEST part, is it shows you odds, and will teach you the best play, and show you WHY.
Interface is pretty plain, but it will pay for itself in no time.

Interesting. Is there any technique that actually increases your return to a positive %?

Not unless you're playing a jackpot game where the jackpot hasn't been hit in so long that it tips over the 100% mark. Todd Brunson did this back at the Bellagio back in the 2000s I believe because the jackpot was so big - all he had to do was pump in $100 bills until he hit the royal, which he did after many hours of play.

I think the highest return you'll find anywhere today is 99.67%, and even then that's rare. Quarter machines are now down around the mid 98's, and you can still find 99% on dollar machines in Vegas.

I gave up getting hard into VP years ago, so this info is off the top of my head. But I wouldn't mind having a sit down machine in the game room to get in some practice.

There are a few games that have above 100% return, and they are shown in that app. However, this is assuming you play every move correctly. Good luck!
Here’s a couple screenshots showing some of the games and their percentages if played perfectly:

To note, those are with perfect payout machines and games that don't exist in Vegas these days.
In this app, you can customize any game to match any real casino machine, and see what the percentage is on that. It will also give you live feedback on that customized game as you play

How much does one of these run and where can they be found? I'd love to get one for my poker room.

The Bally CURVE, if you can find one, are under $3K. I sold mine with a couple of games for $3500. The buyer paid for shipping and arranged the pick up.
