Here are a few pictures of some chips I recently acquired. More info and pics to come.

The amount of chips I ended up acquiring puts this as my largest purchase to date. The $1s are casino used while the $5s are a mix of mint to good condition. $25s and $100s are mint.

A bit about the Ramada Card Room:

  • Card room opened in 1989 in Paso Robles, California. Paso Robles is located on the Central Coast - some great wine is made there.
  • When the Ramada Card Room opened the poker games were originally self-dealt.
  • According to the owner, business was slow at the beginning and they operated just 2 tables. Business did pick up over time and eventually they ran 4 games which is what they were licensed for.
  • Some of the initial (old) regulars played low ball, but it didn’t attract many new players so the focus became hold-em and Omaha with Omaha being the more preferred game.
  • The games played were typically low-limit games with tournaments run to get players in the door.
  • After having the card room open for about 4 years and both working a full-time job and running the card room, the owner made the choice to focus on his full-time job and close up the Ramada Card Room.
  • A few years after closing the card room the chips were sold to a friend (or maybe not) of the owner who was opening up a new card room in the area. After not receiving payment for the chips, the owner took back possession of the chips and put them in storage which is where they were until I purchased them.

Here are some additional pictures of the chips.

Wait...what....those are all yours? Holy mother. Nice score. What's that about 5,000 some odd chips?

My best guess is total bank of $32,714.

$1 x 2,164
$5 x 1,975
$25 x 491
$100 x 84

Incredibly impressive.

Sweet find, Matt. Great set, top-to-bottom. Quarters and hundos are excellent.

After some wise feedback, I decided to just go with the $1s from the original set instead of swapping them out.

So, today I started the baking process with the $1s that will likely hit the felt Thanksgiving weekend. It is a bit of a tedious process and many of you know, but the results are good so far. The short trip to Home Depot to pick up the c-clamps seem to be paying off. Also, using the toaster over is perfect as I have been baking at a low 160 degrees which seems about right.

These are really great.

I love those kind of Cali hotstamped chips with the denom on one side and the name of the cardroom on the other side.

I've some The Post $5 which I'd dream to complete a rack (I've only 2 barrels) or at least have 2 more barrels to have a playable quantity.

Great score and great story. It's so nice you've been able to know the complete story of this cardroom and been able to talk to the original opener.

Just stumbled upon this thread and I have never seen this set before (just the $5s from classified posts). Figured I would bump it for others to see, because the chips are incredible!
