I'm holding a meetup in Arizona (East Valley) from Thursday October 13th to Sunday AM October 16th, 2022. There will also be the option of starting early on Wednesday the 12th if you're so inclined.

I'm limiting attendance somewhat due to space and logistics. I'm going to have a max of 18-24 seats available with preference given to local Arizonans and folks who played in the various BBOTB games back east. I'm limiting attendance to people that have attended a BBOTB previously, or have played with me at a home game or another meetup. I'm hoping to be able to host a larger event in 2023. For anyone who is curious what these games are like, check out any of the old BBOTB threads here. They're very fun, social games with equal parts poker, party, and laughs accompanied with lots of food and drink.

Nearest airport is Sky Harbor (PHX) in Phoenix. It's about a 20 minute drive from my house. For hotels or Airbnb, anything in Chandler and Gilbert should work.

Here's the tentative agenda:

Wednesday, October 12th
- 6:00pm: Brewery crawl and dinner in Chandler/Gilbert/Mesa area
- 9:00pm: 5/10 Big O at Lone Butte Gila River Casino (we'll try to take over a table)

Thursday, October 13th
- 10:00am: Breakfast at Daily Dose in Tempe (delicious, best breakfast spot I've ever visited, guaranteed hangover cure)
- 12:00pm: Circus cash games (25/50c pot limit) starting at noon
- 5:00pm: Raising Canes chicken for dinner

Friday, October 14th
- 10:00am: Breakfast at the Farmhouse in Gilbert
- 12:00pm: Circus cash games (25c/50c pot limit and $2.50/5.00 fixed limit)
- 6:00pm: 2nd Annual Scarney Flipament ($40)
- 6:30pm: 11th Annual SOHE World Championship (previous winners are invited to bring their Lipstick Skunk trophies as card cappers, each will receive a commemorative t-shirt)
- 7:30pm: Circus cash games resume (25c/50c pot limit and $1/1 pot limit with dedicated dealer)

Saturday, October 15th
- 10:00am: Hangover breakfast back at Daily Dose in Tempe
- 12:00pm: Circus cash games (25c/50c pot limit)
- 4:00pm: Catered BBQ from Joe's in Gilbert
- 5:00pm: Registration for the 11th Annual Truman's House NLHE Main Event ($120)
- 7:00pm: Circus cash games recommence as tables free up

Food: I'll have a ton of snacks and munchies, and there are *alot* of options for ordering out with delivery from Doordash, Uber Eats, and others. If you want to get your own grub, there is a grocery store within a 4 minute drive. There are multiple restaurants and bars within a 5 minute drive as well.

Drink: I'll have multiple cases of bottled water (AZ tap water is notoriously distasteful), lots of soda options, and a bunch of local beers from Wren House, SanTan Brewing, and other local breweries. There are around 8 breweries within a 15 minute ride if anyone wants to take an afternoon excursion. I particularly recommend the SanTan Brewing Distiller and Brewing tour which is around 10 minutes from my house and is really interesting (and delicious). I'm also going to get the necessary supplies to enable Leonard to make his World Famous Blackout Margaritas (at least that's what I call them, as I'm going to drink at least 15 of them every day).

Other Stuff: I've got a heated pool and a hot tub with a full patio right outside the slider and there are 3 or 4 excellent golf courses within a 15 minute drive. Temperature here will be in the 80s during the day and low 70s or high 60s at night with no precipitation so basically perfect.

Sunday, October 16th - anyone still here on Sunday is invited to the local sports bar to watch NFL Sunday Ticket and continue turning our livers into mush. It's a 2 minute drive or very short walk, great atmosphere with people rooting for virtually every team playing on TV.

Oh, I'm absolutely in, as I might have indicated previously and by PM.

I'll even haul a guest set from the Old Pueblo if you'd like. You even get to pick which one! :D

(GHT, knowing dates nine months in advance helps a lot with my crazy work situation and how nights are scheduled and spread between 2.1 observers. The more advance 'warning', the easier it is to juggle who is driving when!).

If you have a tourney set I’ll definitely take you up on that. Lemme peek at what you have and we’ll coordinate. The more sets the merrier!

Regarding cash sets - we‘ll use my Trumans House ASMs for Thursday and Trumans House Paulsons for the limit game Thursday and Friday post-tourney, but I’d welcome a guest set for Friday during the day (needs to be relatively large, Friday is AKSHUN! Day) and Saturday pre-main event. Let me know if anyone has one they want to bring.

I have my Lounge H-mold tournament set (T5000s exist but are from well after these photos were taken):

...with plenty of chips for 27 players, and more....

Also, my PCA-Empress mixed set. The Casablanca brick $100s are being relabeled to $5000s, and will be done well before October.

And the full set... clearly plenty of chips for a deep 27 player event:

Let me know, but we obviously have lots of time! :sneaky:

All my cash sets (Lounge, Arizona Club and California Club have 1000 $1 chips each, as well as the PCA cash set), and plenty of higher denomination chips to cover re-buys, etc., so if those might be wanted, they are also available.

I only heard about Raising Cane recently and I heard “raisin cane” and assumed it was a raisin themed restaurant. Not only do I hate raisins but when they are heated they are only more disgusting so I am a strong out if that is the case (it’s not)

I may have to sponsor a taco bar. Need to learn bergs some AZ goodness. I wonder if Guedo’s Taco shop is still around. They were the shit.
That would be amazing!!! We’ve hit up a bunch of places since we moved here in July but I haven’t heard of Guedo’s yet…

I just checked…they are closed for good. El Gallo de Lagos will probably be good for old school tacos pastor. Many old school valley Mexican joints aren’t around anymore as generations die off. I always hunt the old school traditional Mexican shops…authentica. No new wave for me. I used to say that Arizona had the best Mexican food in America. Now I think Tucson owns that title by itself.

mid October prediction of high temps in the 80s. Not sure if you’re just optimistic or….”bless his heart”

Highs were in the low 80s this year. September was consistently in the 90s or even low 100s.

I was still in the pool (without the heater on) in early October. Worst case it’ll be comfortably in the 70s. October is pretty great weather-wise here.

FWIW I picked October because it’s the best weather and still the low season here tourism-wise. March is (from what I hear) pretty nuts with the snowbirds and MLB Spring Training. I’m expecting hotel prices will be much more reasonable in October.

I'm an adventurous eater--I've eaten all manner of things all over the globe, and I love myself a good old-school greasy spoon diner. But that plate of congealed, shiny mystery meat was the most disgusting thing I've ever seen served (and eaten). And I'm counting lutefisk and surströmming.

In my head I was thinking this meet-up could be a great “layover” for a connecting flight to Vegas after but let’s be honest, I’ll be lucky to afford to make it back home after this one.

Excited to make this one, brother!

When I held these back East, we had a couple people actually leave Vegas to come to it. Meetups really are the best part of poker and chipping.

I used to live out there, always want to return! My then girlfriend, now wife lived right across the street from Kokopelli golf course in Gilbert. Many fond memories of my time out there.
