I've got a couple random questions around the inlay design process that I'm hoping someone can answer.

1. How expensive is it to have a designer design an inlay for you? Obviously each designer has their own pricing and therefore there is no set pricing. But ballpark, are we talking a couple hundred or a couple thousand?

2. Do designers help come up with an idea for you? I have a couple very loose ideas and really need someone help push me in the right direction.

3. How close to an actual old casino design will CPC allow? I really like the old chips from the Sands. However, it's my understanding that they wont produce a copy of an exact design. Is it possible to have an inlay that uses the "Sands" name and font, but changes some other elements of the design?

If anyone has any input I'd really appreciate thoughts on my questions.

1. Usually depends on time used, and all the back and forth with revisions and such. Some can probably knock off a simple design for you for under a hundred bucks. Others may cost a bit more. But I haven't yet heard of a designer here that has charged in the thousands.

2. You can hire them to do as little or as much as you wish. However, it does help move things along if you can provide a starting point or elements or theme to use.

3. Yes, you can do a tribute that looks very close to the original, but different enough that it can't be considered a forgery or contravene other IP rights still in existence.

3. I did this close to a decade ago with my California Club tribute set:

The earliest versions used a 1:1 copy of the walking bear logo from the early sign on the building and on the second edition chips, but was facing the other way.

Jim Blanchard, owner of ASM at the time, promptly put the kibosh on that idea as being "too close to the originals", despite having additional text on the inlay that isn't here in the original.

I decided to use the neon sign as the 'backup' design, keeping close to the originals, but distinct enough that it wouldn't be mistaken for the originals. In all honesty, I think the end result was much better than my initial plans.

At some level, I think a design that's a tribute old casino that isn't an exact copy makes for a nicer finished chip. It's properly a tribute and not trying to be like it was something that might have been forgotten in the back of the vault, unused at that particular property. Use the name and the font, but also make it your own. In my opinion, that's a more personal tribute to the casino than anything that's a near exact copy.

I'll be curious to see what you and your designer come up with. The Sands is such an iconic casino that it will be hard to go wrong with a strong tribute set!

I'm just gonna leave this here...

Instead of the city and state they have "card room" in the second line, but that's about it.

Awesome. Thanks for the input. Right now I'm kind of in the planning stages and getting ideas. Plus, I need to get enough posts to be able to sell my current set to raise the money for my customs. :) (original Casino de Isthmus)

Someone is actively looking for your $5 CDI's, I saw a wanted post recently.
