In a few weeks I'll have my first ever cpc custom cash set. My question to custom poker chipset owners.

1. How often do you host?

2. Do you own multiple sets outside of your custom set ?

3. Do the other sets ever see play outside of the custom set?

4. If you only own a custom set, would you consider purchasing another, non custom set?

At most I host every other month. I own a large Samurai Palace cash set. I'm afraid that it simply won't see any action. Its to nice of a set, and too valuable to just collect dust on my shelf.

Thoughts?

I'm in your position. I haven't hosted in a couple years unfortunately. I have 1 tourney set and 2 cash sets. I would definitely consider selling one of my cash sets since they're not used.

I host twice per month

I have a custom cash game set and a custom tourney set with another custom tourney set in the works
I have two non-custom (i.e Paulson) cash game sets and a non-custom tourney set.

I just try to rotate the sets each time I host

1) 2-3 times a month

2) I own two other sets. A BCC Grand Island set and a PCA/Mixed cash set.

3) The tournament set gets play once a year in December for the holiday tournament. The mixed cash/PCA set I just bought and got used during the holiday cash game. I will use it in the future for NL/Pl only nights.

4) Seeing as I just bought the mixed/PCA set...

I host once/month most of the time. I've probably hosted twice/month less than a handful of times.

I have one custom cash set and one custom tourney set, both Three Putt Poker. I also have a non-denom set (JS hot-stamped small crown solids) and a tourney set from a group buy (BCC GCOPs). I rotate between tourney sets and get the cash set on the felt almost every time I host (either post-tourney cash games or cash game only nights).

I have a set of circle-square Rounders on the way that I plan on using as a micro-stakes cash set (but could also use it as a tourney set if needed...tsk tsk tsk, I know).

I'm also coming up with ideas for a custom two denom ceramic set - I'm not in any hurry for this one though.

1. How often do you host?

Never. Moved away from my regulars. But will be trying to get some games going this year.

2. Do you own multiple sets outside of your custom set ?

Nope :( sold them to fund unemployment.

4. If you only own a custom set, would you consider purchasing another, non custom set?

If I had the cash I'd own a 100 sets and would never care if they got play or not :)

Host weekly
Multiple sets +12
2 x custom sets
Sets rotated weekly - with one or two of the favourites slipped in a little more than others.

1. At least weekly.
2. Yes.
3. Of course.
4. N/A.

1. 1-2 times a month
2. Yes, I do own several sets in addition to my two custom sets.
3. Of course they do. :)
4. ROTFLOLOLOL!!! See #2.

I host once a month. 3 or 4 times a year I will host a second time within a month. I provide the chips for our group when someone else hosts. All my chips see the felt, some a little more than others. Retail sets make great traveling chip sets.

1. I used to host almost every week. Recently it's been about once every two months, but I hope to ramp it up a bit in 2016 (it's been quite complicated with everything we've had going on AND scheduling around other local hosts - also weather is a bigger factor than for most as it's rather difficult to get to my place in inclement weather. @Poker Zombie would have a spreadsheet I'm sure. Me, I just wing it. ;))

2. I own 2 other cash sets besides my customs, one casino Paulson and one BCC MGK. Both are my personal favorites ever produced by either of those companies, and both have immense sentimental value to me. I only plan on owning one tourney set at any point (my BCC tourney set will be in the classifieds if/when I get a set from CPC.)

3. They do see some play, although at least 3 times out of 4 in a game I'm hosting the Via Lacteas will be in play. There are also a couple of "occasional" games (twice/year each maybe) that ask me to bring cash chips if I'm able to make it, and since the VLs don't leave my house (barring meetups) they get some extra play that way. I really never want to sell them, although it's not out of the question if an absolute need arises.

4. Sure I would, and I have, but in the end it all comes down to your situation. If the SPs don't really "mean" anything to you other than being really nice chips, you may be better off with the custom set and wad of cash from selling them. Maybe you could buy something really cool (non-poker-related) with it. But then again, if the cash is going to just sit in your sock drawer alongside another $5k for $.25/$.50 games because you're a massive bankroll nit, why not keep the awesome chipes around unless/until you really need it? :p

Thoughts?

1. monthly
2. yes
3. yes, eventually
4. yes, or another custom

Abby and Dave sum it up nicely.

1. How often do you host?
12 monthly tournaments and a bigger annual tournament -- 13 tournaments a year; no cash games unless secondary to a tournament (but haven't managed to get one going yet).
I usually provide the chips for another monthly tournament.

2. Do you own multiple sets outside of your custom set ?
I'm not sure this is really responsive to your question. I will shortly own 3 tournament sets and 1 cash set. All of mine are semi-customs. They are either custom labels on CC molds, or custom ceramics on stock edge spot patterns not designed for the top but a good match.

3. Do the other sets ever see play outside of the custom set?
My cash set is rarely used. I will have 2 CC sets (CPS and Majestics -- both with custom labels) and plan to rotate them. The ceramics are used for secondary tournaments for those knocked out of our main tournament. That doesn't happen every month.

4. If you only own a custom set, would you consider purchasing another, non custom set?
I'm personally not wild about stock sets, even though some are really nice. I like something no one else is going to have. I'd never say never, but I'm not sure what circumstances would get me to do that. Now, if another mold I really liked came along, I might consider another cash set or tournament set, though I think I'd have to have gotten into another monthly game for me to justify it.

I might consider a set of plastics with custom labels if I thought I might have them in a location for emergency use. That would most likely mean my car, which in the summer would maybe even be too hot for custom labels.

Thoughts?
It would drive me crazy to have a set I never used, unless, like my cash set, I had it if needed. But I wouldn't even have considered another tournament set, even though I really liked the Majestic mold, unless I could see the sets I have and the new one all being part of a somewhat regular rotation. For me, I'd look to get rid of a set I wasn't using, unless it was the only one that fit a specific purpose (like my cash chips).

Your answer might be different though. Some like chips just to have them. They don't care if they are played with. Some like the newest toys, plan to play with them, but move on to something different quickly.

1. Now...with the new cash set, about once a month. First time I had 8 players. Next time, only 5. Hope to up it in the future. But also hoping that hosting takes turns.

2. Two others, tourney sets. But we play only cash now.

3. At the near future, it is unlikely

4. Looking how the future might go, not at this point.

Might consider selling my GCR tourney set at some point.

1. How often do you host?
Like you I don't host a whole lot of games, were pushing it to get 8-9 games a year. I can give exact dates. They've been calculated on a spreadsheet. I can tell you when the game is going to be in September of 2023 when we will pay off our house and add a mortgage payment to the prize pool. Spreadsheets rule. ;)

2. Do you own multiple sets outside of your custom set ?
3 custom tournament sets
1 Milanos set
1 custom cash set
1 set of dice chips

3. Do the other sets ever see play outside of the custom set?
The oldest custom set is only played once per year, at a ladies night event. It was designed to allow a shit-ton of limping family pots early on, and rarely have to make change. The CPC customs are the workhorse set, although the CPS custom labeled chips always come out for our Hall of Fame game, as well as at least 1 other game each year. The cash set never gets any play, because my job prevents me from hosting/playing in a cash game in the county that I live in. The Milanos are a travel set that have seen some play, but since I've picked up a set of Majestics to give to that host, they will see far less action. The dice chips are only used for comparison tests and occasionally for some sort of marker.

4. If you only own a custom set, would you consider purchasing another, non custom set?
I only eyeball up non-customs with the intent to relabel, but accept it would be a travesty to mill/relabel a rare set of TRKs for my own use. I have plans for a jeton/plaque set in the future as well, which will of course be custom.

^This, very much this. The question is really are you a poker player, a chip collector / hobbyist, or both? Some folks here are chip collectors with multiple nice sets and enjoy rotating sets through their games. Others have one or two nice sets and that serves them perfectly. Others hoard thousands of high end chips and have never hosted and never will....

Between my tourneys and cash games, I host once to twice a month and fall into that first category. I have 2 sets of semi-custom chips (working on 2 more), 3 casino sets, 2 home clay sets, 2 home ceramics sets, and a big china clay tourney set. My favorite sets get played with most, but I do rotate through the others, depending on the number of players and the game.

These are good questions,
I do not own a custom set YET, plans are in the work..

1. How often do you host? - I host once a month

2. Do you own multiple sets outside of your custom set ? I have two sets I love, Cash Casino De Isthmus (1998), and an Empress cash set.

3. Do the other sets ever see play outside of the custom set? I will have a hard time rotating outside of my custom set, cuz the customs are going to be soooo awesome...

4. If you only own a custom set, would you consider purchasing another, non custom set? Since I have 2 sets and my custom will be sooo awesome, I probably wouldn't, unless of course a killer deal came up... :D

Thanks for all the reply's. My custom set is a full two table set where as my SP set is a healthy one table set. At best I host every other month. Honestly it might even be slightly less. I can't imagine hosting and "not" getting the sunset chips into play.

I guess I'm going to have to think about this. Several of you made some very good points for me to contemplate.

In a few weeks I'll have my first ever cpc custom cash set. My question to custom poker chipset owners.

1. How often do you host?

Once a month.

2. Do you own multiple sets outside of your custom set ?

Yes. I own not less than seven other sets besides my customs.

3. Do the other sets ever see play outside of the custom set?

Yes, for various reasons. Currently the only custom set in my possession is a tournament set and we don't play many tournaments; my cash set is paid for but won't be produced until someone else places an order for chips on the scroll mold. Until I get my cash set, I have a number of other sets that play for cash - Stardust Poker Mansions, Empress, and WTH&C's to name a few.

Even once I get my customs, though, I'll only have them in play at one table per night. We always have a microstakes table w/dealer's choice, and if we have enough we'll have a second table with a more traditional game - NLHE, PLO, etc. I'll always have different chips at different tables, and we typically start every night with a speed tournament, so 2-3 sets per night will make an appearance.

Law enforcement? Casino business? Other?

Fire Dept.

Deep South.

Morality clause.

I circumvent it by preparing dinner for every game. $20 covers dinner, all prizes are out of my own pocket. They find that acceptable if it's a tournament, not acceptable for cash games.

I just shrug my shoulders and call it a draw - I like tournaments much better anyway, but the cash chips are nice.

I run a monthly tournament and cash games every couple of months. If my kids were older I would probably be running two games a month absolute minimum.

A couple of reasons I only host every other month.

1. Colleen. She works most weekends, and isn't a huge fan of the game.

2. In my area we have multiple hosts (all of which are awesome).

I just realized I really didn't answer your specific questions:

1. How often do you host?
About once per month, on average. Nearly always a two-tournament day, typically Saturdays.

2. Do you own multiple sets outside of your custom set ?
Yes, I currently have about 13 complete sets -- mostly tournament sets, with about five that are either dedicated cash sets or multiple-use sets that could also be used for cash play.

3. Do the other sets ever see play outside of the custom set?
The cash sets rarely get used (some have never seen play). I have three or four tournament sets that are used on a rotating basis, depending on circumstances.

4. If you only own a custom set, would you consider purchasing another, non custom set?
I currently have plans to purchase two custom sets, and am always looking to add desired non-custom sets to the collection. I am attempting to narrow my entire collection down to a half-dozen total sets, however.
