Private poker room from scratch. Essentials? (1 Viewer)

It's quite easy to clean. I turn it off at night and the next day during clean up I power it up and set it to "1". I then use a wet soapy dish rag folded over several times and run it up and down the rollers....

I have a small one with non-stick rollers, and it wipes clean easily with just a few minutes cool down, then start the motor again and wipe.

Don't know about yours, but mine has a plastic drip tray as well -- a quick rinse takes care of that, too.

Been there, tried to sell that to my wife. Never gonna happen unless I have five acres and a barn, and the urinal is in the barn. :(

A urinal is really a smart investment if hosting several times a month. Depending on where you live water and sewer bills can get expensive. A water efficient urinal can cut that down a lot.

Is this private in the sense of being a club but a legitimate business venture, or truly private as in you are pimping your man cave for friends and family to hang out?
No, no business, only friends. AFAIK this is illegal here.

The single biggest hit of my poker room is this.

Great Northern Commercial Quality 18 Hot Dog and 7 Roller Grilling Machine, 1400-Watt
by Great Northern Popcorn Company

Hehe, good idea.

if you are building from scratch and are building a bathroom, a urinal is a must. I wish my bathroom had one
The room exists already.

Cheers,
Vince

It depends on the hot dog. Nathans I can only get 12, but Hebrew National I can get all 18 on there. Hebrew National are the dog of choice for the Windy Crest Poker Room!
So .... In late October, I go on eBay snooping around to see if I can get a deal on an 18 dog roller machine ....
They're all between $120-180, more than I'm willing to spend ... But Then:
I see a listing for a Brand New, 1500W 18 Dog commercial quality 7 roller machine with lid, for just $14 , Delivered from China! The Seller was brand new with Zero feedback, so what could go wrong?
I decided, with both PayPal & eBay "guarantees", to go ahead and order it for the $14 ...
A day later I get a notice the item was marked as "shipped", with an estimated delivery from Nov 22 - Dec 14 ...
5 Days later, I get an email from eBay, saying that the listing has been removed & the seller banned from eBay, but "not to worry" , any completed / shipped auctions should go as normal & they can be contacted if any problem ...
I emailed the seller asking for a tracking number, no response ( to 2 emails) .. I then opened a case w/ eBay around Nov 11 ... & they refunded the $14 in full within an hour .... Needless to say the machine never arrived in December ... :)

I love it! A new post about suggestions on designing a dedicated poker room and fully half the posts are about a hot dog oven! (I'm not being sarcastic)

My practical suggestion: easy-to-clean floors. I'm not a fan of carpet because it traps allergens and other crap. Any smooth hard surface is really easy to sweep/wet mop. I've got stained floating cork floors for an interesting change of pattern. Of course, if you're going for the high-end look, marble and granite are nice, I just hope you don't drop anything glass or ceramic on them!

You should have a copy of Robert's Rules of Poker, just in case. Seating chips are also nice to have.

Can’t wait to be back in the states!!! My room will most definitely have a Keezer

The first time I saw the post about the oven, I thought it was a device being used in case someone refuses to pay. Found it quite fascinating.

Then I realized they really are talking about a hot dog machine (n)

I always feel some type of mini bar for snacks and drinks is a must. It lets your guests socialize away from the game and keeps the food away from the table, cards and chips. I also suggest foods that do not leave crumbs, melt or stain, nothing worse than spending the weekend cleaning up a big mess.

Already said but
Great Table
Comfy Chairs
Good chips and cards
Outlets for charging
Tvs
Led lights
I’m going to be adding a Dry erase board to keep track of games or promos sometimes it’s the small things that make it easier

This is a very practical and solid piece of advice. I refinished my basement using a tightly woven low pile carpet. I really should have gone with a hard surface. I like that carpet feels warmer and doesn't make any clicikity clackity noise but it is a pain to clean. I usually end up vacuuming before and after I host poker. Also spilling beer on carpet is much more of a pain in the ass. Some type of hard surface would probably be most practical. I like the idea of a hard surface with an area rug. This way you can just vacuum or even replace the area rug after a few years.

IMO the single most important factor is comfortable chairs. I picked up some chairs from a local casino that shut down and I often get positive feedback on how comfortable they are. Everything else can be adjusted to your personal preference but don't cheap out on the chairs. Think over your drink setup. Many people advocate the kegerator however I much prefer a simple beer fridge with a BYOB policy. I personally like trying different beers and it is nice to not always be on the hook to provide beer for everyone.

As others have mentioned a bathroom that is convenient is also really nice as it will be frequently used.

I do think having a theme is pretty fun and then deck out the room with appropriate artwork and plaques. Every time I go to Vegas I see those massive oversize cards and I always think they would make cool wall art. You could use those massive cards and put up a royal flush on each wall or something. Those oversize cards can also be bought on eBay/Amazon I believe.
