Hey everybody, new to the forum. What exactly is the difference between primary v secondary casino poker chips? The primaries were first and therefore older or original?

Thank you

In case the primary chips get compromised, the secondaries would come into play. Easier and cheaper than closing down the casino while new chips get manufactured.

The primary and secondaries still look exactly alike, I think? Given this, I guess I still don’t quite get it. Thanks in advance. Blown away by the knowledge people have of poker chips on this forum

the colors are completely different between primary and secondaries. majority of the time secondaries are never casino used so they end up being absolutely flawless when sold on the open market after a casino closes or changes chip designs etc.

example below of 4 different sets from two different casinos.

the top two rows are Terrible's Casino Lagrange with one row being primary and one being secondary, note the spot design, spot colors and label coloring being completely different from one another. Followed by the last two rows of Terrible's Casino St. Joseph again note the different spot designs, spot colors and label colors. The differences are unmistakably obvious if you actually pause and take a moment to notice them.
