Got the green light to (tentatively) schedule my first post covid game from the wife at the end of the month.

What type of precautions have others taken/will be taking?

  • Warning message to all not to come if they feel sick, recently sick, knows someone sick, etc
  • Masks - think this pretty common moving forward, or at least until the pandemic slows down. I saw a lot of people in other threads doing this.
  • Hand sanitizer - pretty sure this is obvious. How often so it's not overkill? Other than before/after eating, after the bathroom... every hour? Every button before you shuffle cards?
  • Tempaure check - this one seems extreme, unless you don't trust the people at your game.
  • No "communal" food. My wife would always make a charcuterie board, so now she's gonna make individual plates for people. Mixed nuts and such would be pre portioned into plastic cups.
  • Drinks... BYOB? not sure if this would accomplish anything? Instead of people mixing drinks just have something pre-made ahead of time? Pitcher of rum and coke or something.
  • Specific to me... We play in my detached garage and guys would piss outside off to the side. Thinking about just making this a rule unless there is an emergency.

I don’t make em use masks
Ask them to stay away if not feeling well.
I provide Hand sanitizer
I provide multiple sinks with soap
Make them use a real restroom so they can wash hands for 20plus seconds with soap
After the game I wipe down table rail and chairs
I rotate chips every week (have 4 sets in rotation)
I rotate cards every week

We do masks, hand sanitizer at the table when ya want it. Wash hands when you arrive. Don't come if your sick or had an exposure for 14 days.

Here is what I'm looking at -- planning to play live in about 2 weeks.

Safety ideas
  1. Do not come if you feel sick, have recently been sick, or if you have been exposed to COVID-19 in the last 15 days (1 extra day of safety).
  2. Do not come if you are running a fever.
  3. Players must wear a mask.
  4. Suggest dealers also wear a face shield if they have them.
  5. Will use hand sanitizer as a dealer button.
  6. Have smaller frequent breaks for washing hands.
  7. No communal food – everyone brings their own and no sharing.
  8. No sharing drinks; I will provide water.
  9. No eating at the tables.
  10. Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap during the main break.
  11. At least use hand sanitizer in the short breaks.
Considering the following -- I'd love thoughts on this.
  1. I may also limit it to 7 per table instead of 9. Real reason is just fewer people here.
  2. My play down to 2 tables of 4, then go to final table when one more eliminated. We normally go to final table at 9.
Miscellaneous -- While wiping down afterward is a good idea, the virus can't live on any surface for more that a few days at most. If you only play once a week, your cards, chips, surfaces, etc., will be fine. One player asked me if I'm planning to throw away the cards. Our cards are used less than once every 6 months.

Are you going to throw away your chips? You should probably get rid of your table while you're at it. :ROFLMAO:  :ROFLMAO:  :ROFLMAO:

I like the no eating at the table rule.

I also considered capping how many people per table. Like you, I was thinking 7. We typically get 8, so it's not a huge difference either way.

NO KISSING!! As bad as I wanted Gunny to KISS MY A$$.... @Lil Tuna, @Ben8257 , and @FordPickup92 wouldn't allow it

Abby 99, I thought the same thing when the player asked if I was going to throw the cards away. My wife just got a new (expensive) dining room table we will be using for the first time. If I told her someone suggested getting rid of her new table, she'd probably shoot them! Then she might shoot me for inviting them.... ;)

Honestly, I feel like masks are 80% of it, hand sanitizer is 20% and everything else is negligible.
And personally I think I'd rather play no poker than sit around in masks for 4 hours. But good luck and be safe!

...

I was thinking of these exact two things for my game.

I'm in the same boat. Screw wearing masks for 6+ hours.

When you say you feel masks are 80% of it, do you mean masks provide 80% of the protection? I would agree with that breakdown.

I think masks make the game 5 times safer than not wearing masks. Pulled the "5" out of my ass, but I think they make the game much much safer. But I think that's the big question, do you want to wear a mask all night? I'd rather not, but if it means starting to play 2 months earlier...

Played my first live poker last night since I got back to my summer home. Played at a buddy's house and there were no masks and I felt totally comfortable. Flew home last week and wearing a mask all day sucked.

Your guys piss outside and then come right back to the table? ewww...I think I'd rather take my chances at a casino.

Masks are a good idea but questionable whether people will tolerate wearing a mask (properly) for the whole night.

Limiting people at the table is probably also a good idea to maximize the space between everyone.
