I purchased 2 1000 chip acrylic carrying cases and was only using one to start. I have the chips for our home game, but I’m not the host. After driving around with the chips sort of rocking back and forth in my truck the handle separated from the baseplate. This was only held together but some shitty screws. I have transitioned my main chips over to the other case and have been careful with it, but I’m terrified I won’t catch the faultiness in time and I’ll end up splattering 1000 chips all over the sidewalk.

The point- does anyone have any recommendations on sturdy carriers that can hold 1000 chips in racks? Most casino cases have metal handle/baseplate welded together, but I can’t seem to find that for sale

I have an Apache 3800 that fits 800, dealer button, blind buttons, and 2 decks of cards no problem. You could probably get a wait with that, or jump up to a 4800 for more space

I highly recommend the Apache cases from Harbor Freight. They come with pluck foam inserts that allow you to customize it. Or you can get custom inserts from @Sparkynutz.

This is an Apache 3800 with the custom inserts holding 1000 chips. @Sparkynutz also makes handles that go in between the racks so you can get the racks out easily.

ok so im assuming you removed the foam and used a completely custom insert? all the photos i see for the 3800 struggle to get in even 800. there are quite a few posts out there that show 800 is maxing out why does yours look so much more compact !

When you buy the case, there are 4 pieces of foam. One is for the lid. The other three are for the bottom. Two of the bottom pieces are thick and one is thin. The thin piece is on the very bottom and one of the thick pieces are sized to fit under the racks only. The other piece is not used.

I have a 3800 with 8 racks, and could easily fit in 2 more if I got rid of the spot I use for my buttons and decks.

If you want no fuss no muss get this Versa case

Pair it up with 10 Justin Racks and you're good to go. If you're not taking it on a plane or planning on it getting submerged under water this is the way to go.

yeah i may just do the versa.

at first i didnt want the chips to rattle and potentially chip but now i got a bunch of justin racks so n ow im good to go with that versa.

the nanuks and pache pelican style just looks so cool and premium

I have the Versa 1000-chip case and the 600-chip case, as well as an Apache from Harbor Freight. While the Versa cases are more expensive, you don't need to deal with the foam, making your own layout, etc. You just drop the racks in and go.

I love my Versa for carrying chips from A to B. Much more secure than the acrylic cages I store them in.

If you get one, you might be interested in this "hack" I devised to help remove the bottom two racks from the case:

Hope this helps. Good luck with the search for the case you are looking for! There's no one "right" answer but only the solution that works best for you. These happen to be my preferred option.

This will be controversial.

My favorite carrying case for my purposes is a camera bag.

Like all other choices it has pros and cons. For me it has more pros than cons, and as they always say, your mileage may vary.

Pros

This camera bag hold 1400 chip easy (sometime 1500 if needed) chips in Justin racks or other covered racks.
It can hold multiple card setups, dealer buttons, game plaques, a lot of other accessories.
If you only have 1000 chips in the bag, the remaining storage is greatly increased.
It has zipper storage on each end of the bag and in the front
The thing that helps is this has a built in shoulder strap, so it does not have to be carried by the handle. The shoulder strap is pictured below.
The bag slightly expands if you ever need to stuff extra contents into the bag.
I can even rollup my table topper and set it on top of the cups and still clip the lid closed

Cons

The exterior is not solid, like a hard case. If you need that - this is not for you.
Might be too heavy for some people - depending on how much you stuff it. If you need wheels - this is not for you.

I have several of these

Here are some pics.

The Bag contains 10 racks 1000 chips, then you see on rack added vertically for 1100 - you can easily add 4 additional racks in this empty space vertically on the side for 1400 chips. You can squeeze an extra rack for 1500, because the base flexes a little.

Then have been priced lower at different times.

Hmm. Great idea!
I have a smallish one with all my telescope lenses in. Gonna order another one for chips now :) Shoulder strap will be handy when I bring chips and food to share when going to other houses for poker night! I won't have to take a 2nd trip or ask for help now.

I can recommend the Versa as well, admittedly haven’t done a lot of travel with it, but it seems solid for the price.

The apaches look like they’ll take dings/ handling better over time, but if you’re not throwing it about like luggage and keeping it somewhat upright this’ll work:

I designed some inserts for my 1520 Pelicase through mycasebuilder to fit 1,000 chips, here's a thread

***UPDATE***

Not Recommended - I just got 1600 Chips in this bag (all inside Justine Style racks) - along with Cards, Dealer buttons, Game Plaques, and other accessories.

Sure it is heavy - It is Heavy - but it works if needed.

This bag concept can be a valuable Work Horse Solution - if it suites your needs.

I guess one could say _ I am All In...

I hope you understand why I read this thread...
Right now there's 1100 here, but I can add another 100 and it can close... However, I have to hold it by the bottom to get it to the gaming table.

oh god i mean yeah theyre singles but how do you sleep at night at end of game to know you got all your chips back!

would be good to keep them in racks to know immediately if you short before and/or after the game

ive had a game where someone lost a black chip and we found it weeks later but its like how do you know if a) they really lost it or b) they really found it and c) if that lost black chip was even the intiial "lost" one in question it could have been a second lost one and now you are out 100 bucks as the host/bank

The Apache cases from Harbor Freight are where it’s at. I now have 3 4800’s and will have to acquire another one soon as I just put in a CPC order.

I customized a Versa 1,000-chip case to hold racks instead of the supplied internal faux-velvet thingies. After modification it held 1,100 chips (eleven racks) and two card setups.

Process below:

https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/versa-cases-back-in-stock-at-dps.20404/page-2#post-1237572

Basically I “murdered” the guts of the case and used cheap materials from Joann Fabrics to re-line the case and shim the racks to be snug.

Note: This makes for a heavy lift. The Versa cases are sturdy, but you need to be, too.

We play for now, among relatives and I have a few spares. But, of course, I have to come up with something about this...

Anyone that has this versa 1,000 chip case... Do you know if you can fit two decks of cards at the top? I am getting Justin's 40 mm chipwrecks with lids.

Thank you for the inspiration! Great work.

What are the shims you used?
The racks might be a bit larger than normal - 67.7mm sold by @dennis63 (perfect fit for CPCs). Everything was very snug in the case, the only shims I used were on the edges of the middle rack, and just repurposed the dividers from the original case.

I also glued the edges of some of the racks down with a gluegun, seems to be holding well.

Note: I didn't remove the border pieces in the case as well in teardown, just the chips trays and middle dividers.
