Good morning! Making a big investment and wondering where you can order/obtain both hot stamp dies and poker chip mold dies. Any leads would be appreciated. I have seen from searching past threads that occasionally people have these for sale and if you have any lying around that are unused I'd be very interested! Also could trade chips for these things...

Thanks!
Iman

Are you looking to acquire used ones as memorabilia, or are you trying to get new ones made for you to use?

For used ones: old hotstamp dies and poker chip molds occasionally turn up in auctions, but they're pretty uncommon. For example, recently there was an entire set of Scroll Mold cups plus the die used to stamp the cups that was listed on eBay for $15,000. Here's the PCF thread about the listing: https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/scroll-mold-literally.60995/

Here's the text of the eBay listing and a couple of pictures, for anyone reading this later on after the listing's gone:

RARE!!! Actual Hispania Gaming Scroll Mold and chips
Once in a lifetime opportunity

You will probably NEVER in your lifetime have the opportunity to own something like this.
You are buying the ACTUAL gaming cups for compression molding the Hispania Gaming scroll mold.
Included are 40 actual cups in pristine condition AND the actual SPRUE to make new cups!
Also included are the sample chip colors and MOST IMPORTANTLY....
the actual FORMULARY to make the material which becomes the poker chip.
Also included are sample casino chips made under Hispania Gaming's scroll mold.
There is alot of history to this purchase and I will be more then happy to explain it in its entirety.
I have never seen something like this come up for sale in my lifetime!
email me with any questions.
I will entertain real offers and shipping will be included or you may pick this up in person.

As you can see from this post, the site's admin Tommy has a HHR scroll mold cup; I'm not sure where he got it. I have a few mold cups; I got them from the Eisenstadt estate auction this year. As @HaRDHouSeiNC mentioned, Overland Express has had some hotstamp dies for sale, see examples here and here and here and here. I recall seeing a number of others for sale here and there but I can't recall the details.

For new ones: dies for hotstamping are readily available from a number of suppliers; if you google "hotstamp dies" you'll turn them up. New molds for making poker chips are completely unavailable for compression-molded clay chips; nobody's making any new ones except Gaming Partners Inc and they'll only make them for casinos. New molds for injection-molded chips are readily available, but they cost tens of thousands of dollars to manufacture and aren't very interesting; they're very large, very heavy blocks of industrial machinery. Any supplier of custom injection-molded parts can have one made for you but I'm guessing that's not what you're after.

Can you talk a bit more about what you're looking for and what you're planning to do with them?

This is all very interesting info. Thank you. I will investigate.

So. Planning to chase the true dream. I'm expecting (like a baby) a hydraulic heated press and hot stamp machine shortly in the mail.

Plan after that, with everyone's help of course, chipping is a family sport, is to try and obtain/get made dies for the press. Then make some chips hopefully...

Tbd. I've decided that the chips I want cost as much as this process will and this *might* be more fun and less frustrating that refreshing the classifieds every moment of every day.

Any help or guidance anyone can offer is greatly appreciated :)

Definitely watching with interest! I've always like the old school look of hot stamps. Plus the only MFG that will do custom stamps right now is CPC and they're really expensive. It would be nice to have other options.

An important factor is to make sure there's enough recess for a stamp. Many chip molds aren't good for stamping because there's too little, or no recess. TR King for example. TR King did a great job on their chips, but most third parties had a hard time with them.

I dealt with a chipper many years ago that started doing stamping. He told me TR King couldn't be stamped. I replied with this:

I remember this, but not sure if anything ever came of it.

I have the clay formulas and instructions on how to make them laying around here along with lots of pics. I'll publish them on thechipvault.com when I get around to it. also, i have LOTS of clay blanks premolding.. and blanks with edge spot cut outs and the edge spots like pictured above. I'll probably run a thread if there is interest here.
