Good evening all, and happy Thanksgiving to everyone that celebrates.

Made it over to Live! today for a few hours. The game, $1/$2.

I get seated at a table with 4 OMC and a few other players. 8 at the table with me here.

Once I sit down, and I am dealt in one behind the button; I look down and have KK.

Obviously, I have no information or reads whatsoever at this point.

2 limpers to me and I raise to $10. (not know what the standard table raises have been). UTG calls, villain 2 to my right calls (older gentleman). Both players have hero covered. (I had just bought in for the full $300)

Flop comes 6 9 J, rainbow. Utg leads out for $15, villian calls. I raise to $50, both players call.
(I mean really, we all know I should re-raise here, and I think the $50 was a strong raise).

Turn is a 8. UTG checks, villian leads out for $200. Action on Hero. What to do????

Mark

Ouchies... You shove! Puke when your villain tables 7-10. Rebuy.

Feels like you are against a pocket pair that flopped trips, or Qx10x. Kings are nice, but it's still only one pair. If it were me, I'd fold.

How much you have left? If you're seriouslypot committed and are getting the right odds, call.. Otherwise ^^^^^

Fold. What hands is villain leading with here? Sets, QT, etc. They should have c/r. Yuck.

So when I play 1/2, this is pretty much how I play it - standard pre-flop raise, roughly pot sized bet on flop.

I've been thinking about my results playing 1/2 and 2/5 - they could not differ more dramatically. I wonder if at 1/2, given how bad most players are, you shouldn't just BOMB the flop with a shove. You're going to get idiots with AJ, QQ, T8, QT, 78, and a bunch of other hands to call (which is great on a rainbow flop). You'd have to be able to withstand the variance and refrain from tilt, but I'm starting to think that 1/2 and 2/5+ need to played very, very differently.

Anyway, I usually do what you did, but if this happens Friday at Foxwoods, I'm plowing the flop.

^^This. There are virtually zero villains at 1/2 where this is not the case. When this happens I snap-muck and thank my lucky stars that villain gifted me $240 by donk-bombing when they hit their straight/set/2 pr instead of checking to me and letting me put my stack in the middle.

I'll play it a little different pretty flop sometimes at 1/2. If in early position, limp, raise.....when I have my laptop I'll share a funny story about this

Fold. You are behind at a casino 1-2 game. You are up against a set or more likely a straight and drawing dead. There are plenty of games full of aggressive players where this is not the case, but not here.

Krafty. I'm with everyone else here. Fold. Zero table reads vs unknowns. Now I would like to know what everyone would do if this were a meetup and the villain was Guinness and the hero was Courage.

At MEet Up if hero is me and villain is Guinness, I call and hit a board pair to counterfeit his 2. Pair.

I agree with what folks are saying, HOWEVER, if I sit down and get KK the first hand, I just make a HUGE preflop raise $25+ and make some statement about just being here to gamble and wait for everyones money to fly in...

In early position at a 1/2 game about half the time I will make a solid 12-16 pre flop raise or limp raise.

A couple of months ago I'm first to act with Pocket K's. I limp for two bucks. position 4 makes it 12 I think. He gets 4 callers. Gets to me and I shove my remaining 100.

The initial raiser jumps up and starts crying that I'm "unethical".......yes, his words, that I limped raise in a 1/2 game. He carried on for a couple of minutes before folding. It ended up folding around and I scooped the pot.

For the next 10 minutes he paced back and forth saying you don't limp raise, its not right, blah blah blah. He then said he couldn't play like that gathered his chips up and left, lol.

You are in a crappy spot. With no information on villains I think you have to fold.
I hate having to make decisions like this so whenever I sit down at a new table I always buy in for the minimum at least for the first few orbits.
It doesn't take long to get alot of info on who the maniacs are and who the rocks are. I would play KK very different on a table that routinely has $15+ raises and 4 callers compared to a table where an $8 raise takes it down.

This is hilariously ridiculous. Hope you were failing at trying to keep a straight face....

Where do you usually play? One of the downtown casinos?

hero gets in a pot where the SPR is ten, a bad spot for one pair. Flag one.

Hero raises the flop on a semi-dry flop and gets two callers. flag two. I range callers as TP/GK or sets or straight draws. two pair and bluffs possible but not likely.

Turn card brings in the most likely straight draw and a villain makes a full pot sized bet. flag three. Ranging him as straight > set > two pair . TP/TK > bluff.

It is possible that hero is best, but not very likely. Hero has no redraws vs the most likely villain hand.

fold. For what it is worth, I recommend checking behind on the turn if no one bets. We still have two flags sprung and I want a cheap (free) showdown.

Welcome to the table -=- DrStrange

ps note a different set of villains would yield a different play on the turn.

I'd ask courage to buy half his action on the flop and if the hand got to the turn, buy of Guinness' cuz he's getting there.

(disclaimer: not really what I'd do. I'd watch the hand go down and then crack my 14th beer).

This happens all the time when I make ridiculous calls with implied odds to hit gutshots and get there. I actually love this reaction and hate the occasional deafening silence when this happens.

LOL. Actual hand from last night - random $1/$2 cash game after min-cashing a $40 tournament, earning my $40 back (LOLdonkaments):

Sit with $200. Maybe 3rd hand I'm in the BB with 33. Zero reads. Entire table limps; SB makes it $16, I call, everybody else folds (ya really.)

Flop is 862r. SB bets $17, I call because obv. he could easily have AK/AQ/whatever and stuff.

Turn J. SB bets $17 again, I call because WTF am I supposed to do, fold? I've seen players do this with nothing before.

River 3 (ding.) SB bets $17 (LOLOLOL,) I jam, he snaps with KK. I roll my hand and experience the "deafening silence moment."

Proceeded to continue to run like Apollo on HGH and walk with more profit from a 1-hour cash session than anyone made from the 6+ hour donkament (1st place was slightly more, if 1st/2nd hadn't chopped... ;)) Poker is fun!

Thanks all. I folded and tried to get some information. Nada. 3 hands later I get QQ, same villain calls. Flop KKJ. Checks to the river where he bets 20.,I call, he has KQ. Fml. Busted a little later when AK<AA.

Thanks all for confirming.

Note...this guy ended up calling almost every raise and min Betting with small pieces. The fact that he lead out on that first hand makes me think he really had it
