Please Help With My Poker Room ! (1 Viewer)

OK so I've Defiantly been thinking about location i want people to feel safe and comfortable. I want a spot that also has accessible parking being that i would have at least 15 people at a time. This is probably my hardest challenge. Comes down to my neighbors, parking, space, monthly cost, Ect.

As for credit i don't think i will be extending credit because the only thing that can come out of it is me getting stuck money owed. I understand that people will want it but i will establish that from the beginning. Or if so I would say ask somebody to loan you it and you pay them back or something.

Thanks for the reference on the book will be ordering it tonight!

As for the dealer i will find an ex-Casino dealer i know of a few already so they will know how things are run. For pay if you have experience what did you choose and how did it work out ? I was kind leaning towards pay by tips I've seen some post say they could make 300+ that way.

I would want to take rake because that's what will fund my game and pay for food, snacks, tv, hostess, etc. or else ill just be providing a table and chips lol

To keep people incentivized and stuff i was thinking taking 5$ a pot till i real 500$ and award the highest hand within that time. Also every hour on the hour i would want to run a double board bomb pot(25$). Keep the game fun and alive. Blinds will be 5-5 I'm not sure if i want 1$ chips but idk because who wants to tips 5$ for every single pot or waiter bringing them a water.

I want to create and atmosphere with the players so they want to come there. So they look forward to start time of the game to just get away from what ever there going through.

Also need to find trust worthy and non shady players!
Are you running this game for profit or to break even?

From your post it sounds borderline illegal?

Hey i am a new member and i am in need of help starting my poker room...
Im looking for chips and a table w/ dealer cut out but don't know where to find good quality that wont break the bank .
For now i will be looking to start a 5-5 home game any one know how many chips i should have to be comfortable and not run out of chips ?
Also how much did a start up of someone who has already done one before cost ?
What miscellaneous stuff will come up ?
Any one with experience or knowledge of a start up home game will help.
looking forward to the comments ! Btw from ny if that helps
Additional to what everyone has already said - I usually like to get some light snacks and drinks for everyone. Some of my friends drive a good distance once a month so the least I can do is provide a few snacks and drinks. Definitely don’t rake. Be thankful you have a successful home game and give them a reason to keep coming back.

15 people means 2 tables of $5/5. That is a lot of money on the table with a lot of people that know about it. Running that size game means you shouldn’t be playing in it as well unless it is to prop the game in the beginning or end of the night.

starting out I would recommend 1 table only. Get your feet wet and get a feel for the players and how you want to run things. Once you have done that for several months then you could think about expanding to tables.

Don’t buy any cheap China Clay that anyone can search for and get from a website in 10 minutes. It will be tempting for someone to sneak some chips in.

custom ceramics are under $1 each, especially with a volume discount that you would get if you end running two tables.
Do you know any custom ceramics producers? I was thinking about that earlier because i was gonna use majestic or dunes but anybody can get it from the site. I will do my best to bring trustworthy non shady players but it is defiantly is a risk.

I'm against raking a home game for many reasons.
We're usually ordering pizza (everyone pays for themselves) and BYOB and never had any trouble.
players play in a raked game for one primary reason..... the host is guarantying that players will be paid at the end of the night even if some of the losers slow pay. That is paramount in a decent size game where the host is extending credit to players. A nice set up and good food is great, but it means nothing if players have to leave the game with a marker.

Well I am guaranteeing that my players will be paid at the end of the night without taking rake.
How do I do it?
If I extend credit, that means I am putting my own money into the bank so that at the end of the night, everyone gets paid. If someone slow pays, that is my problem for extending credit.
That is why I'm only extending credit to players that I've known for a long time. I never had any problems getting my money back. Especially since paypal is around.

I have 2 sets from them and am very happy with both. Turn around time is usually about 2 weeks. Can’t beat that compared to CPC!

Gotcha think i will go with the copag. They've been mentioned to me a few times.
Copaq are good but they crease easily. I like the modiano platinum cards better. And for the game u are describing u need a new set up every game to be opened in front of the players at the start of the game. If u buy in bulk u usually get a better price I know that’s true fir modiano.

As others have said with a game that big you have to have security. With the cpc turn around time custom abc or be pro is the way to go. New deck every game is a must as well, to bad you missed the huge card sale by @Josh Kifer

That's good for the game, it may help to change laws.

Never going to happen. People still can’t mKe their own distillers liquor. Government will never be ok with getting their grubby hands out of a revenue source. Let people walk for robbery and assault sure, but let someone get away with making a few dollars without paying a tax... no way!

Do i just have to watch the site for sales or is there another way i can find them out?

If you buy modiano platinums in bulk (spend at least $250) then you can get 20% off. Buy 24 set ups, the cost is about $15/set up. That’s a good deal. If he is raking a big game that cost is nothing. Even if there is no rake and people are just chipping in to cover costs, it’s still nothing to fund a new set up every game. When I host, I add up the costs for dinner, snacks, drinks, cards, etc and every one chips in.

They will do semi custom chips as well as fully custom chips. Mine were completely custom. So they'll start with a blank, white chip and you provide the artwork. There are members here that you can hire to develop artwork. Do a quick search and you'll find some folks.

Gotcha Thank you

Gotcha Thank you
You're very welcome! Here are some pics of the set I had made. I haven't had a chance to put them in play yet, but I'm very happy with them. They are somewhat basic in design, which is what I wanted, but there's almost no limit on what artwork or design you could do with them. There are threads on here where people have posted photos of their custom ceramics. Not everyone is a ceramic fan, but for price and customization I believe they are very viable option.

I would also recommend ordering samples. Also, once you've got your artwork into BR Pro, you can order a sample set of prototypes of your actual designed chips to see if you want any tweaks before pulling the trigger on a full set.

These look really nice. I doubt your players would have any problem with these. I also have a designer for my chips already so it would be perfect .
