Whether or not to buy cheap the cheap chips, considering this:

I live in a house with roommates who really want to get back into playing some poker, and we're all excited to give it a go this weekend.

I say definitely buy them, whichever you are most likely to get your hands on by then. If you hypothetically would have aspirations towards Paulsons, it would be a tall order to score a set by this weekend. Even if you just want china clays or denominated slugs, given that the PCF mantra is "get samples" I would not count on having any by this weekend.
It's 10 bucks, you'll be drinking for more than that during the game!
