I was all set on the A-Mold for when I get a CPC set. Bergs gave me a couple sample Truman's House chips with some other chips I got. Man these are nice! I like the Horsehead mold too. What to do!

HHR mold is really great. It's probably my favorite mold. The only "problem" I have with it is that, IMO, the theme/artwork can be difficult to tie into a chip with horses on it.

Too bad I can't go with the Mr. Terrible's "The Best Bad Guy In The West" theme. Horsehead would work.

I really love the FDL miles above the others... but it seems to be a polarizing mold. Either love it a lot or meh about it.
HH is nice though too.. go with that :)

I wouldn't sweat the mold vs. Design. The horse head mold is one of the nicest ones offered by CPC. I love outer rings on molds and very few of their molds offer this. The biggest drawback is the inlay size you're restricted to. Trying to get a decent inlay on a small surface can be tricky.

I like the HH mold but by far prefer the FDL or MD-50. The latter 2:just feel so much more hefty and substantial to me than the others

I never liked the HHR, until bergs got these chips. After playing with them MANY times, I am a fan. A big fan. They feel and shuffle great. You can't go wrong.

I still prefer the MD-50 over HHR, and am waiting on scroll mold samples.

I like the MD-50 the best, but I just got a sample set of the Deja Vu chips on the FDL mold and I had no idea that I would like it as much as I do.

Horse Head was the mold for me. I don't think you have to tie the mold in with your inlay. I wanted a mold that was used in real casinos. H-mold was another choice. I would get a mold sample set from CPC. These days I drool over the MD50

My favorites are MD-50, HHR, A-mold, B-diamond mold, circle-square, Roman, and plain. However, it wasn't until I played with MD-50 chips that I was compelled to order a set of customs from ASM-Maine. I'm so glad that I did. :)

Yup, explore your mold options. It will matter more then you may think. At first i wasn't sure I'd love HHR, despite the obvious tie-in to my theme, but they stack and shuffle fawesomely. I prefer md-50 even more and also love circle square and have big love for elephant & crown.

Ask David to send you samples of all available CPC molds, like a barrel each.

I had toyed with the idea of starting a thread about doing something similar to this to gauge interest; purchasing a "PCF" master sample set for determining colors, spots & mold selection for CPC chips that could be passed around to members. The set could include a complete color sample, edge spot sample and then maybe 10-20 chips of each mold. The issue of course is the price - it'd probably cost $400-$600 for all of that, which is a bit more than most would be willing to send around on good faith. So it would likely only work if the sample is getting purchased/sold from person to person - or have one central buyer who rents it out with a deposit to cover the cost if the renter doesn't return it. I thought about inquiring with CPC to see if getting all the stacks of the various molds would be possible, but didn't think too many folks would be interested on renting the sample set given the $500+ deposit.

I think its a good idea. If someone is going to spend hundreds of dollars on custom chips, I don't see why a deposit would be an issue. I think one person needs to be holder of the chips. Set a basic set of guidelines. EX: Renter can have them for 5 days then must send them back. I'd put $25 in the pot for these. Molds and Color samples for sure.

imo, it's one of the reasons to collect sample sets. Also, it's prolly something CPC should/could provide. Renter pays deposit and shipping and keeps sample set of 10 of each mold to shuffle for 14 - 30 days.

Seems like a good reason to go to a meetup too. There were games played with A-mold, FDL, and HHR at least in one weekend, and I wouldn't be surprised if there was at least a barrel of each of the other molds floating around.

This is one of my motivations to get in the the recent flood of samples (other than that they are stunning). I have samples of a-mold, b-mold, h-mold, csq, hhr, diasq, and fdl. Unlike most, my favorite is h-mold followed closely by csq. Maybe it's because I've had h-mold the longest, but it's grown on me.

That said, any thoughts of a custom clay set are a long ways off...the exchange rate right now is just killing any thoughts of it.

sometimes you gotta 'just lose that money'. lol

That's what I was thinking, molds and colors. The spots would be nice too but it likely doubles the investment (and deposit). Let me think about it some more, maybe I'll check in with David to see if the stacks of each mold would be possible.

While that would be a nice service, I wouldn't blame David & company one bit for not offering it, the logistics of renting/returning a sample set to multiple complete strangers would be a huge pain in the ass for them. If it's done within PCF it's at least somewhat controlled. I think what CPC provides is more than sufficient from business standpoint, this would just be an effort within the community to help defray the cost of everyone ordering samples individually.

Already asked David about 6 months ago, if you want a sample of each mold its going to cost you hundreds just for that alone.

You'll also have to wait up to 6 months for this to be completed, at least

They wouldn't have to be new chips. I bet we could find a 10 chips of each mold just asking chippers to look in the closet.

I have a full color sample set on the FDL mold that I could offer up as long as they'd find their way back to me, eventually :D. It may be missing one or two chips, I'm not sure anymore but yeah, I'll throw my hat into the ring

Here's all my ASM/CPC samples, not including samples from members sets.

Top 2 rows are the FDL color sample set. Middle left are 2 sets of A mold samples, middle right are H molds from Apache. Bottom left are 2 scroll molds from PGI, bottom right are one chip each of individual molds.

The molds are:

Diamond square
B diamond
Textured no mold
A mold
FDL
Cards and dice
Circle square
Hourglass
H mold
Horse head right

I'm sure we could create this using just samples of members sets. I could donate 10-20 of my B-Diamond chips, if we get one member to do so with each mold then we are off to a good start. Would also kill two birds with one stone, since they would all be different colors and have edge spots.

I was thinking a full color sample and then 10 chip stacks of each mold (~150 chips total), not necessarily a full color sample of each mold (~400 chips). This way you can see all the colors and get a true feel for each mold without shipping the equivalent of a full set of chips around.

It may take a little while, but I think the above is feasible, the gears have been put in motion. :)
