I enjoy hosting my friendly game of poker. We play about every month or so and wondering what everyone does that is unique to your game. We have a few different hosts and everyone has something unique or does something unique when they host. I usually offer a shot to get started and use poker plaques as a bounty chip, or with high denoms in a cash game. I was wondering what other people do to personalize their home game and wondering if I could steal some ideas. While my chips are not spectacular, I have lots of trouble finding them online anywhere other than some German site. If you know how I could get supplemental chips for my set I would like that too. I'm new to this site and imagine I'm doubling up on previous threads, but I couldn't find any that were what I was looking for.

Am I about to be made fun of because of my chips? I know they aren't good, but they are definitely not dice chips. They are softer feel and much better, but no Paulson. They are what ilI have right now. Looking for a new set, but I am unsure what to get for the next step up. Not ready for the 3k+ for a set of paulsons.

no, not made fun of at all. but you're probably going to find something here you want to spend money on, and then the flytrap has you.

No one will make fun of you because of your chips. It was more of a warning that if you are happy with the chips you have you should stick with them, going down this rabbit hole inevitably ends up with spending massive amounts of money on the top end chips.

Happens time and time again. He was just trying to save you. Either way, welcome!

Edit: leave now while you can!

Welcome aboard! Definitely not knocking your chips. The warning is that the more you immerse yourself in this site, the more your wallet takes a hit. Some great budget friendly ceramic options that could immediately make your experience more unique.

In terms of hosting a good night of poker, I've found that providing some cool food options (hot dogs on a roller, nachos, chick Fil A nuggets, etc) really helps to enhance the experience. Investing in solid playing cards, like @desjgn, also improve the game.

There's also some great chippers in the Omaha area, like @colter ripton and @bsdunbar1, who could probably weigh in on chips, cards, table, etc to get you set up.

Ceramics from @BR Pro Poker will certainly personalize your game

I'll be honest, those plaques are awesome!! I don't really love the ceramics offered on BR poker. Tiki kings and Nevada Jack's seem rather childish for my taste(not trying to start a fight) and the ones I think look nice(laurel crown) seem to not be as good of quality. Hear they have lots of spinners and irregular sizes and so on. I do have a sample set made from Catco, which are impeccable and if someone has a set made by them I would be interested. This is just a sample, but the oversized chips are really cool.

Thank you for the suggestions. I do have quite a few great plastic cards that really do enhance the game quite a bit. I do have an industrial frozen margarita machine that I use for margaritas from time to time too. Not an every time usage, but it is cool to use at times. I dont do much other than meat and cheese dip. Hotdogs roller seems unique and a nice touch. What do you mean by chippers? Are they selling chips or active on this site?

I am well aware of that.

Not leaving. This site intrigues me. Been playing poker since I was a kid and love it. Just hoping for chips a few steps below Paulson and a few above dice chips. Lol.

Welcome @nebdrew
Where in Omaha are you located? Do you play in any other home games in Omaha now?
Just moved to Papillion. For the most part, just play with the same two dozen friends since childhood.

I am well aware of that.

Thank you all for warning.

Welcome @nebdrew ! As many have stated above, there are so many ways to customize your home game. Obviously chips are one of the main things that we choose to customize here, but there's also so many more. From cards to table felt to card cappers to fun circus chips (like custom Show Em).

I think the first thing you need to do is ask yourself how much you want to spend on making your game a bit more customized. Do you want to go for a brand new set of chips? So many options and so many price ranges here. Cards mold are probably the best bang for your buck, but unless you want to buy one of the designs that have already been created, you'll need to either create one yourself or find an artist to work with.

I like baby steps. Upgrading your cards is probably one of the best things that you can do, and I second @desjgn as some of the best designs around.

Don't forget that BRPro can also make fully custom sets, so if you're not happy with what they have in stock designs, the sky is the limit. But switching your chips out is a larger decision that probably involves some time. So again, baby steps. Maybe even something like a custom card protectors that you can hand out at your game. There's also group buys for custom cut cards all the time. Those require very little skill in order to produce your own custom cut card.

I like this set. For some reason I am very concerned with the sides of chips even more than the faces. The ceramics I usually find I dislike the sides when they are stacked. Tiki kings for example have a just a diagonal slice. Just doesn't do it for me. I like stacks of chips and what it looks like from the sides is almost more important to me than the face of the chip.

Do most people think ceramics are the way to go if not Paulson? Are they quite a bit better than next gen and China clay?

Welcome to PCF! Your chips look like Langworthy or RT plastics which I would say are definitely better than dice chips and feel better too. Hard to tell exactly without close up pics.

These are semi custom Valentino chips. The plaques are from @Apache.

If you have issues with the looks of the designs on the ceramics offered from @BR Pro Poker then make your own design! They do make custom chips

If not Paulson / CPC then there's ceramics / plastics (like BRPro and Cards Mold) and China Clays.

In my opinion, the only China clays that are worth any consideration are the Apache Royals. But those two types of chips have a different feel, sound, everything. Get samples and see what you like.

I dont think these are either of them, but I can not say for certain. I've only seen them for sale on a German site. I dont know what they are. Maybe they are one of them, but the pics I saw dont look similar. I got them about 15 years ago and have no memory how and where.

Found a sample of them at Buy Poker Direct
https://buypokerdirect.com/holdem-cowboy-clay-filled-poker-chip-sample-set-4-different-chips/

They may be able to source more. But they may also be discontinued.
Those are it!! I like how it gives denominations when there is clearly not. Thank you. They are out of stock, but ill keep an eye out for them

You’re right. Now that I see that nib and the spots are not rounded. Langworthys have a typical injection spot on the edge of the chips like this.

Plaques are fun and I liked them.

I had assembled a Paris theme set that have all the value chip ($20 & $100) replaced by plaques

I also have plaques used for my PCA set as the highest value chip ($100) and Bounty chip for my FHC T5 Set

That’s being said, I think the most obvious upgrade will be upgrading from Non denomination Chips to Chips with Denominations
