Rant incomming... Sorry in advance.

I am so annoyed by members hyping what is essentially bad prices in the classifieds. Listings for chips that are already at, or even above what the chips are worth, and still people will write posts like:

"great price"
"why are these still here?"

Etc. And obviously the chips would be sold if they are listed a a good price.

The most annoying thing about this is that there's newbies reading these posts and actually believing it.

I appreciate the fact that people can sell for what they want, but I wish there was a way to compensate for the posts that hype a bad sale..

This makes newbies buy chips at what they asume to be reasonable prices, but they are in fact overpaying and will probably loose when they change directions, and we all know that will happen with chippers, right.

Anyways, is it considered bad form to make a "sad" or "angry" reaction to the posts hyping this. Or would it be considered thread crapping?

This has been a thing since I first joined and I was swayed by it once. Live and learn; do your research.

Let's not overthink emojis.

I agree with you 100%. It makes no sense that critiquing a bad price is threadcrapping, but cheering for a questionable price is okay. If anybody needs protection, I’d say it’s the ignorant newbs, not the overpriced seller.
Though now that I think about it, earlier in the week, I hyped up those Chipco Halloween chips, which sat unsold for a couple of days. So maybe I’m guilty of it too.

Agreed, but I'm not sure anything can really be done. New members.... Buyer beware I guess

.....obviously the chips would be sold if they are listed a a good price.
True story. Anything that is truly a good deal here lasts about 2 seconds around here & certainly no more than 5 min.

If you are getting little "sad" or "angry" imogies then your sale price is most likely unreasonable and you probably deserve it, but at the same time if I thought I was being reasonable and someone is giving me the business in my sale thread I am for sure thinking that those comments are going to hurt my sale so idk...

There are several epic threads on this where there were like 25 pages of comments in like 2 days. I'm not really sure there is a solution that is going to make everyone happy. To me it is mostly a supply and demand thing and people just have to figure that out, but at the same time I do feel that new members are sometimes being taken for a ride and when that happens it isn't the most friendly/welcoming thing for someone new to the hobby.

Yeah, it's a tricky spot that I've found myself in a few times - seeing a sales thread like "Dice Chips only $4 each!" with a bunch of "Wow!" and "Great Price!" comments.

I rarely say anything for several reasons: I don't want to thread crap. Value is different for each of us, and what I consider overpriced might be a good deal to someone else. And I don't want to piss off a seller that I'm friends or friendly with - I might want to buy from or sell to them later. ;)

My advice to new chippers - really, to anyone - is if you're unsure, do some research first. Look at recent sales, talk to other chippers, and make a decision on whether the sale is a good deal for you personally.

Also, stop posting "What a great deal!" in sales threads.

fair market value

I have an idea! We’ll make a committee called “the committee for public Saftey”. All chip prices will need to be approved by The Committee. Sellers will be prohibited from asking more or selling for less. Likewise, buyers will be prohibited from offering more or less than the price approved by The Committee. Any instances of sales that do not comply with the price approved by The Committee will be reported to The Committee and offending members will undergo tribunal proceedings before The Committee. Disciplinary decisions will be decided by the sole authority of The Committee and any appeals of such rulings will be heard by The Commitee.

I’ve got to work out some minor details and run the final plan by The Unintended Consequences Committee, but I expect quick approval by the Benevolent Dictactor and look forward to our new utopian future in short order.

Research really is the best advice for new chippers. But having been pretty green not very long ago, the biggest problem is that when something is a good deal, by the time I'm done doing a little research, IT'S GONE!!! LOL! It just takes a little time for us new guys to gather some knowledge to where we are comfortable making a snap decision.

And yeah, posting "great price" on your buddy's overpriced listing is very bad form! Cut that out! How hard is it to just say nothing when you know that it is not a great price?

The problem I see with this is who is the final judge of what fair prices are? I understand the sentiment but your really only giving your opinion in someone's sale add.
No, the problem is that only positive opinions are allowed, even if the general consensus is that those opinions are false.

Are there specific listings or chips that you can point to that are overpriced, so that the newbies know what they should pay?

There is only one member that I know of who got his panties in a bunch regarding ONE emoji on ONE of his posts.

He received another angry emoji today, so I am sure that we are going to hear about it.

Tommy has previously clarified that emoji use in the classifieds does not constitute thread crapping.
Since this is so, then we should all feel free to "angry emoji" away on these comments. That at least gives the uninformed chipper a fighting chance at seeing a "buyer beware" message within the thread.

I would say that it is safe to say this one is over priced: https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/jack-cinci-snappers.71615/
He already lowered it once and it has been sitting there for 3 weeks...

I mean it is for sure overpriced, but at the same time buyers have shown restraint in this case. I can't really fault a seller when buyers are, at times, willing to pay almost any price no matter what.

I personally blame the buyers, not the sellers. If no one buys then the sellers either don't sell or they lower the prices. If, for example, buyers are foolishly willing to pay $10/chip for chips that are available in unlimited quantities then why wouldn't sellers take them up on their offer to pay $10/chip? Take as an example a live $1 chip from Bellagio or the Venetian or some other big Vegas casino where there is a card room and $1 chips are both plentiful and easy to harvest for get this...... drumroll...... $1/chip. I am not saying people are paying $10/chip for live $1's from the Bellagio, but they are paying a significant fee for the convenience of having the chips sent to them. Maybe it is worth it and maybe it is not, but like I said I blame the buyers. If people are willing to pay $10 for something that can easily be had for $1, then why wouldn't sellers sell @ $10. If people actually have a little restraint and won't buy at $10 ea then the sellers either don't sell or they lower the price. Supply and demand 101

Although it was very poor form of the other party, I thought it was amusing that he was on the other end of another person's asshat clause.

I unfortunately think all deals are good for someone. I have 10 practically new racks
Of Sahara $1 for sale. I paid $150 each plus shipping and lots of risk. I’m asking $200 open to offers and all trades. I have not sold any for a penny over $175, yet ten of my 15 racks still remain. Good luck hitting the caz the month they get new chips and getting 15 racks out alive unnoticed. It seems not fair to judge how good a sale Is by the time it’s posted and sold. The simple fact these clay gaming token of various colors are selling instantly in most cases only tells me all these deals are great, which Is exactly why we see rich guys buying them ALL. It’s prob a good hedge against inflation for those who haven’t figured out the crypto market yet. Even the ones still sitting here are good deals for someone, I see no need to judge opinions; but there is deff an unwritten law (no dumping and pumping) - I like to follow it amongst others, with my integrity always in the lead.

We’re not here to protect others from themselves.

Sure, we’ll gladly assist when asked, but if someone wants to pay for something after reading an errant comment with no other research, that’s on them.

The reality is that the majority of members now are "newbies" who have been trained to pay and ask for absurd prices.
That's what they honestly know.
Agreed. I used to wish I had joined several years prior; now I just wish for pre-COVID pricing on chips.
They 're like a virgin having had their first time with John Holmes.

But no one is jumping on the thread hyping the price as “amazing” and “why are these still here”, which was OPs point. Just a bunch of people asking if $6.50 is really what those have come to - seems it isn’t.
All valid points

CDI '05s were selling from high 2's to 4.50+ not that long ago and I cant deplete at 3 - 3.50 where I payed (or over paid as a newbie) but that situation could simply be that everyone has as many as they want. But you certainly cant shame someone for not wanting to loose or suggest they don't bother listing them now.

I also now that there are very few (Especially new users) who see a price and even tho they may want the chips are either afraid to insult with an offer or scroll by defeated. The selling of things is a negotiation sometimes. Chips aint chips if you'll never play them! Prices are crazy because folks just pay the price driven by the hoarders who will pay anything.(Not referring to any one specifically as there is many) TOUGH SITUATION, that's why the really good stuff sells quietly in PM's

Happy chipping! Buy, sell or get out of the way!

Just to be clear, it's not the overpriced listings that I'm annoyed by. Sell for whatever you want. What I don't like is members writing "great deal!", or "awesome price" in these listings, when they are clearly overpriced. (even more when this is done by new members who are basically clueless and have been here for a few months)

And I know I'm just an old man yelling at clouds with this. Just wanted to vent a little.
