I've been adding a few acronyms to our PCF Glossary. I've asked for guidance on what should be in the PCF Glossary and what shouldn't.

Its a slippery slope, but we don't want to over crowd a Chip Focused Glossary with Poker Glossary, sure there is / will be some overlap but we want people to use the PCF Glossary for the site.

I want to ask Tommy if we can put up a Poker Glossary, but I want to have a solid base of terms prior to the ask.

I figure I'll find a generic resource and start with that, but until I have time to do that...

Here is my ASK!

What are some OLD school terms you don't see used very often, or Terms you think should be in a Poker Glossary?

Please add if it is an older term you've heard, how you came across it; or something you think should be a term (can be funny) may or may not be included.

Post format:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Term - meaning / definition
Usage: 'Comical or useful quote or statement here'

The how what why of it
--------------------------------------------------------------------

First Entry is from @Anthony Martino

The Taint - Worst possible hand
Usage: 'It looked good at first, but the dealer gave me the Taint, bye money!'

This comes from a post 'Poker Lingo gone wrong' and I think it references a twitter post, looking for a term for the worst possible hand.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Birdbox - seat immediately to the right of the dealer (10 seat)
Usage: 'I hate the birdbox'

I found a glossary of older terms and this was one that stuck with me, I think there is a unique name for the 1 seat as well.

I'll add my opinions later, but I just wanted to say what a fucking legend you are dude. Not many people on this site (myself included) would even offer our time to add things of value like you have. Major respect for you helping out newer members by updating or creating these resources. This stuff would've been a gift from the heavens when I joined.

Agreed, you rock! @Machine

Don’t know if this translates well but we say:

”Upp på rygg” = ”on your back”, meaning you’ve been called, show your cards.

”Rufsa” = ”tousle/rough up” [the cards], meaning shuffle the cards

”Idiot end of the straight” = bottom end of a straight
Usage: “Man I value owned myself by betting the idiot end of the straight”
First heard this on a Joe Ingram stream so it may be more a PLO than NLH term. I’ve used it in both games though.

”The Big Lick” = “69” [even better if it’s 69hh]
Usage: “Oh wow you won with the big lick!”
First heard this from my 10th grade chemistry teacher while playing 3 handed during the final exam. I had 69 and made two pair and he loudly exclaimed that I had won with the big lick…in the middle of his final exam. He never returned and moved to Vegas to play for a living.

“Nit-roll” = “when the nit at the table unintentionally slow rolls you because they think you have the only hand that beats them”
Usage: “God dude some guy just nit rolled me with the second nuts. What an idiot”
First heard in a YouTube vlog a few years back

Yes we need this like bad. To be honest it took me almost a year before I could get on this site and have any idea what you guys were talking about.

Yup:

High Society = $100 chips
Sitting the apple = playing in the highest-stakes game offered at a poker venue
Checks = poker chips, specifically those redeemable for cash at a gambling venue

Yes, I've been adding these, but this will make it easier to make sure we have them in the PCF Glossary

Don’t know if this translates well but we say:

I love this! thank you
”The Big Lick” = “69” [even better if it’s 69hh]

We call this 'Dinner for two'

I always thought high society referred to a rack of $100’s equaling $10k in value. So “3 racks of high society” would mean $30k in black chips.
Also I have a few more I’ll add:
Pumpkin = $1k chip
Flag = $5k chip with a white base color and red and blue edgespots
Cranberry = $25k chips at Bellagio and Aria (idk about other casinos)
Octocrab = 83o in the Reno area. First heard this on a Ben Deach vlog where he said it’s a Reno thing referring to a local refs favorite hand
Playing the nosebleeds = playing at high stakes usually 25/50+

Science = King 8 (claimed to be 2 of the most commonly flopped cards)

Edit: I followed up with my below post including the thread and where it came from.
Honestly one of my favorite reads on the forum was that post

Can someone make a description for +EV ??? I have this generally assumed idea of what it means but I've never seen a legitimate description
+EV = a decision that increases you expected value in a hand
Example: A player makes a jam with AKss pre flop. This is +EV because they will make more money in the long run than than they would have if they hadn’t. EV is an acronym for expected value. So I’m poker every decision either has a negative, neutral, or positive impact on the expected value of a specific hand.

Thanks! My general assumption was along those lines but I'm glad to have a legitimate definition behind.

Sit to banana
Usage: I put a banana in front of a late donkey player's tournament chips [I really did]. He said, "what is this?" I said, "Sit to banana."
IIRC this was said by Isildur1, the mysterious player no one knew who he was, telling Patrick Antonious when Antonious entered a heads-up match on Full Tilt.
