Hey everyone, long time no chat. I’ve taken a break from poker the last couple years, and here in Austin, our new house build is almost complete with ample space to host an event. I got with Jeff/Payback/Schmendrick and am happy to announce the inaugural PCF in ATX!
The intent throughout the weekend is to have 2 tables running, with the main *Circus* table for the true degens. Overs will be offered at limit games, and subject to the table’s mood and/or stuck-ness the limits may increase. Additionally, a number of my degenerate locals may or may not show up for the ATX Limit Mix game on Friday. And, have you heard about the Austin-special game,
Sassy? Read below for the rundown of the delight of the ATX degens.
The second table will be significantly tamer, and at a minimum will spread NLHE. Should players be interested we can add in PLO or something on the tamer side of the big bet spectrum. Ultimately, this table can still be whatever players want, but all players need to agree to any structure/blind/buy in changes (just so we can cover as many players’ likes as possible!).
Should we have enough players to breakout a 3rd table, we can spread games/stakes as necessary.
I am limiting attendance @ 16 people, and pending interest I may expand. Depending on local degenerate turnout we may very well have 3 tables running the entire weekend. Here’s the lockup list:
- Breich
- @Payback
- @Schmendr1ck
- @Jeff
- Breich’s Degen Friend #1
- Breich’s Degen Friend #2
- @David O
- @toothpic
- @ImCrossland
- @DrStrange
- @TX_Golf_N_Poker (strong maybe)
- @nlhenerd (strong maybe)
- @Frogzilla (maybe)
SATURDAY ONLY:
- @RowlettTexasChipGuy
Note--please don't book any flights yet. I'm expected to close on the house the end of October, so once that has happened I will notify everyone that it is safe to book flights. The foundation is about to be poured, so I do not expect any more delays. The house is 20 minutes from the Austin airport and there are a number of hotels within 10 minutes. Flights are pretty reasonable into ATX these days as the airport has expanded in the last few years.

A few of us plan to pool in on a nice bottle. I'm targeting Bunnahabhain 25, but HP21 is always in the cards. Or two HP18s. Or both! Just depends on interest.
Thursday 20 Jan - Happy Hour Poker 3pm - ???
Chipset - Mystery Guest Set (anyone interested in bringing a set reach out to me!)
Food - Roll-Your-Own DoorDash (we can coordinate an order, but I’m not going to plan anything big here for Thursday.)
Main/Circus Game: Dealer’s Choice Anything - single, $1 big blind, $100 capped in big bet; 3/6 limit w/full overs offered
2nd Game: NLHE, PLO/PLO8/Big O may be added if all players agree - .25/.50, $40-100 max. If all players want to change the format up they can play whatever they want, but don't get stuck on Thursday =).
Early Bird Blackjack - If I’ve built my Blackjack table by then, I’ll spread some $5 max, all the fixin’s, count the deck if you’d like blackjack. Mostly just something we can do before we can get a full table going.
Friday 21 Jan - Brett Gets Really Stuck Day - Noon - ???
Chipset - Empress Joliet Primaries
Food - Pizza @ 6pm
Main/Circus Game: ATX Limit Mix - 5/10 + full overs offered. Limit stakes may be raised if all degens agree.
2nd Game: NLHE, PLO/PLO8/Big O may be added if all players agree - .25/.50, $40-100 max/half big stack. If all players want to change the format up they can play whatever they want.
Saturday 22 Jan - Brett Rebuys Nine Times in the Main Day - Noon - ???
Food - 18 hour smoked brisket courtesy of Breich’s Degen Friend #2; personally dry-aged and smoked ribeyes (will probably get an 8-10 pound cut and age it myself for 2-3 weeks). Will be smoked on site at the house! Probably will smoke some chicken as well just depends on turnout. Dinner time probably a little earlier, 3-5pm ish. Just depends on the smoking timeline. We will take an impromptu tournament break when necessary to facilitate caloric intake.
Tournament Chipset - TBD (will be acquiring one)
Cash Chipset - Windy City Bar and Poker Room
Tournament - Four Game Bounty Mix (NLHE/PLO/5-Card PLO8/NL 2-7 Single Draw)
Buy-in - $80 to prize pool, $20 bounty
Unlimited rebuys through first 60-90 mins (TBD), bust to rebuy
Structure TBD, targeting 6 hours max, more likely 4-5 hours.
Cash after:
Main/Circus “Get Unstuck” Game: 4-6 game rotation picked by the circus group; single, $1 big blind, 100-200 max/full big stack (I will have to get unstuck somehow), NL/PL only.
2nd Game: NLHE, PLO/PLO8/Big O may be added if all players agree - .25/.50, $40-100 max/half big stack. Again, this table can change to whatever format so long as all players agree.
What is Sassy?
Sassy is a 6-card stud hi/lo variant played with a button. The button must ante for the entire table, and it also determines draw order for the post-6th street draw (see further).
First betting round - dealer ante, dealt 4 cards. Pick your 2 down cards, 1 up card, and discard the remaining card. Bring in based on lowest card shown. 4th/5th/6th streets are all played normally.
After 6th street, all players are given the option, in order starting with the left of the button, to either change out exactly 2 cards or stay pat. This occurs by initially declaring ‘Sassy’ or pat in sequence. Then, after all players have declared in order, starting with the first player to have announced ‘Sassy’, that player may discard any two cards and receive two new cards. These cards may be 2 down, 2 up, or 1 and 1--there are no limitations here, but they are a one for one swap, i.e. you will always end with 2 down and 4 up and you cannot make down cards up cards (and vice versa).
After all players have exchanged cards, a final betting round is played. This is a 6 card hand at showdown and all normal stud hi/lo showdown rules apply.
We also play this as Sass-dacey, Sass-deucy, Sass-dugi, etc. Really any way to get as much money in the pot as possible. 3rd 4th and usually 5th streets are capped. Yes,
these are very special degens.
