As a brand new member, I'm feeling massive FOMO. I'm drooling over all this HSI and Jack Cincy pron and it feels like I've just missed out on this rare, wonderful opportunities. It would be super helpful to have some sort of historical perspective:

How common is it for vendors like the Chip Room to offer sales like these? Are these rare unicorn events? Or are they periodic?

Thank you in advance to all you trailblazers who have walked this path before me and can advise!

We have a pretty solid Southern Michigan poker crew if your interested in meeting any other chippers. Most of us have a pretty wide selection of chips. You could check out a few different types of chips.

I routinely host in Ypsilanti. We also have S. Lyon hosts, Wayne, and a few others.

You say "vendors like the chip room" - there really aren't any other vendors like the chip room. There's a buttload of legal red tape and huge outlays of cash involved in buying out a casino's stock like that - there used to be a few other players in the game, but in the past couple of years, it seems like there's only one. He's been doing it a lot longer than I've been around; at least ten years, I think. There's no rhyme or reason to how often it happens - I'd say on average it happens a couple of times a year, but there have been times where it's gone more than a year without a big release from the chip room.
There are other opportunities like that though, just generally on a smaller scale. There are plenty of guys who like to make money re-selling chips and sometimes one of them will come across a smaller find (say, 10k - 20k chips, as opposed to 100k-200k.) If you're serious about it, just check in here once or twice a day and read everything new that's posted.
There are lots of ways to come across new casino chips, but most of them involve being in the right place at the right time.

It is a semi regular occurence.

Go to the vendor forum and scroll through the history of threads to see the sales for the last few years.

Thank you. I just checked that out and I see what you're talking about. In your opinion, would you personally expect discounts to keep landing on Black Friday as they have previously?

Hey, thanks Detroit Dad!

I appreciate the invite, but I'm not looking for a game at the moment. I used to live in A2 and LOVED playing in the charity games out there! (Specifically spent a lot of time at Heidelberg & Bel-Mark lanes.) But those are just fond memories at this point since I moved to the west side of the state, the charity games got shut down (boo! hiss!), and now I'm hitched with kids to raise so I'm lucky to play once a year! I'm glad I discovered this forum, though, so that some day if/when I can get back into some regular games I know a) how to build up some supplies and b) how to find some friendly folks like you out there!

Thank you, this is a good perspective. I was wondering that specific thing: is Chip Room as unique as it seems or if others were in the same game. I appreciate the insight.

FOMO is the enemy of rational analysis of your chip requirements and efficiency of budget. The market will always punish the uninformed and the desperate.

Take some time to learn about the different types of chips, their availability, their pros and cons. Evaluate samples whenever you can, either with sample sets that float around to the membership or from a local friendly member that has chips and sets to handle. Consider the stakes and the security of your game. Use the search function.

Well said. I know you're right. But ain't that the thing with cognitive biases? You can know they're there, acknowledge them for what they are, and yet they still whisper.
