I haven’t been fishing in a few decades and the most interesting fish I’ve caught was a flounder… but the recent mail thread posts has made it clear there’s a ton of members with great catches and stories and they deserve to be shown off!

I grew up fishing fresh water... mainly bass. I would get a chance occasionally for "deep sea" fishing in NJ for fluke and striped bass and black bass. When I got older in HS and college I got into trout fishing in streams and lakes and also learned to fly fish.

When I moved to Florida I immediately got hooked on free dive reef spear fishing (Hawaiian sling, no gun). But fortunately also befriended some guys with boats who liked to hit the Bahamas as well as just off shore Miami. I have not gotten out nearly as much since we had kids but I am getting to the point where I do have the time again.

Holy F! I remember I went trolling for Musky once with my uncle. I was probably 12 or 13. We get in the boat and dude brought a baseball bat. I was like uhhhhh... apparently it's a thing.

It definitely used to be a thing. Many decades ago people would bring .22s to shoot them when they got boatside. Thankfully, that’s all changed. Catch and release ethics has worked wonders for the musky populations throughout North America. My favorite of all fish, by far.

Yeah, I had no idea. He was in the war and definitely old school. I knew they got big though and had teeth like a mofo but when I saw the bat I was like... I think we need a bigger boat! I was thankful we didn't catch anything. He was the ultimate outdoorsman though, I loved that man.

As you say, thankfully things have changed :)

Covid helped reignite my fishing passion. Fished often in college but later on forgot about it as I was too busy doing other things and raising a family.

Got a boat with a couple friends last year and have fished as often as we could.

Started with just fishing around lakes

Between poker chips and fishing gear, not sure which one I’m more obsessive with

Once in a while the kids will go fishing with me, but it doesn’t take long before they complain about being bored, hot or hungry
