I spent two weeks in China, visited Macao for a couple days en route to Hong Kong.
I visited several casinos: all of them had plastic chips or jetons in play. The only interesting chip I found was this 5 HK$ from Sands on Macao's peninsula
I found it at fan-tan tables: this game requires a 5% commission, so small-value were available.
I asked for some 5$ chips, the dealer gave me a strange mix of chips, between them something that smelled and felt like a Paulson, but without mold
(chips from various Sands properties, between of them it's Venetian Macao, are in play in all of Sands casinos in Macao)
This is the first time I had a no-mold Paulson in my hands
