Why are 5ers more expensive vs $25s? I see folks selling 1/25 for .80-1.00 a chip then red 5s is like 2 or more a chip. Help me understand why. Thanks y’all.

If you’re referring to chips from a single casino that are sold to someone like TCR then @John Conor is spot on. Most decent sized casinos need a larger percentage of $25 chips than your average home game. If you try to break up 100,000 chips from one casino into evenly distributed 1,000 individual chip sets then the sets will end up with a lot more $25s than needed and fewer $5s than I’d preferred. Prices usually end up where supply=demand so $5s will (generally) be more expensive than $25s for individuals.

Yeah, not much more needs to be said. It’s supply and demand.
Seems like the most common home games stakes range from .25/.25 to 1/2, and all those games require more $5 chips than $25 chips.

Damn I assumed the answer would be “the manufacturer uses rose pedals and the blood from the forsaken to make the color red”. Makes sense. Thanks y’all for the responses.

Also, which $5 and $25 are you referring? For example, you might be seeing a HSI secondary $5 and a primary $25. In that instance, the $5 would fetch quite a bit more because they were more expensive (and desirable) from the start.

I didn’t know HSI secondary $5 are more desirable. It makes sense that they are because they look way cooler lol.

Simple answer is supply and demand.
^^^ This. The $25s aren't as useful in most cash home games (usually lower limits than in the casinos), so the demand isn't there like it is for $1s and $5s - and don't even mention the demand for the short supply of real fractional chips (those have always been expensive). So you could use those $25s as quarters, but most people here seem to prefer using starbursts, roulettes, or relabeling snappers as fracs. Personally, I'm OK with using $5 and $25 as nickels and quarters, but then you have to find another color for your $5 chip. (Relabeled snappers? Blue Vegas chips?)
