Yes, it is awesome in a sense, but I am conflicted about it.

For some time, I've been pissed when I see a CT/PCF member buy chips in quantity from the Chip Room, etc., and then part out the high-value chips at single-chip prices on ebay. There are several people who do this all the time. In the case of small volume chips, this eventually makes it impossible to assemble playable sets of original chips.

To some degree, I suppose this is a natural tension between set collectors/players and individual chip collectors. It might be inevitable, as scarce chips climb in value -- but it still rankles.

I'm under the impression that most of us, rather than being collectors of single chips, are set builders -- we value playable sets of scarce chips above all else, and would prefer to not see scarce sets broken up and sold piecemeal, or in less than rack/stack quantities for the purpose of fashioning playable sets. Maybe I'm mistaken in that belief, but I know that when I do start selling off my modest collection, I will not do it that way.

In any event, I'll enter this giveaway, but I'll state here that should I get lucky and win it, I'll give the chip to another PCFer with a playable set of Vineyards in which this chip would be useful.

Couldn't agree with you more with your thoughts here.

I doubt I will reach the minimum 50 posts by drawing day, but should I win that chip, just draw again. I am not a collector, and to the extent I might become one, it would be restricted to the historic Vegas casinos that have long been closed.

Don't be. Obviously you know the Vineyard chips did not come from the Chip Room.
There is no playable collection being broken up and nothing is being sold here.

That is very nice of you. Some members may need this chip for their sample set. That is useful too IMO.

I have never seen this chip before. Anyone have any idea how they achieved the gold foil look? Really sweet chip.

Someone probably knows more than I do but I don't think they put restrictions on which colors can be used as base colors and which can be used for spot colors. Fitzgerald's Reno quarter was metallic gold but that's the only other one with it as a base color that is immediately coming to mind.

I guess being happy about getting a chip like this as a token of appreciation make someone a "glass half full" kind of guy....

As noble as pltrgyst's cause may be, this baby would be far too beautiful to ever leave my hand.
