Just a random thought that I had and wanted to see if others noticed anything similar. Based on my obsessive scouring of the internet for Paulson chips, it seems to me that several groupings are selling at prices well below what they were when I started chipping 7 months ago.

Some examples:

Home Series
  • Classics - were in the $2.00 - $2.50 range, now have moved towards $1.50
  • WTH&C - were in the $3.00 - $3.50 range, now around $2.50, with occasional dips to below $2
  • NPS - were in the $2.50 - $3.00 range, now in the $1.75 - $2.25 range
Entry Level Casino Sets
  • Grand Vic Primaries - The lower denoms had been in the $0.75 - $1.00 range, but are now in the $0.40 - $0.50 range. The higher denoms have also appeared to drop as well (I know I took a loss on every denom)
  • Aztars - Similar to Grand Vics, the market is starting to get saturated and the prices have generally dropped
Being that I am a relative novice, maybe I just haven't seen the cyclical nature of chip prices. Of course there are other factors, like the Horseshoe chip sale, that impact pricing. However, this is the first I've seen this sort of decline, and I find it interesting.

I think it mostly has to do with the Horseshoes being right around the corner (fingers crossed).

I'm not so sure. There are tons of chip deals going on by PM and email that you never hear about. No data on those sales.
I hear you. For the record, I have no data on anything, purely subjective observation (meaning I pay closer attention to the sets I have or am interested in). I'm hoping prices go down so more new chippers can get involved. Buying at the top of the market blows.

I'd say it has a lot to do with desirability. The home series Paulson chips are generally not as desirable as Casino sets so their prices aren't as high.

For casino sets the condition is a big factor on price. The primary Grand Vics aren't very much because the condition is casino used/worn. Mint sets like secondary Grand Vics, Secondary PCA's, Vineyards, etc sell for $2+ per chip and I don't see those going down anytime soon.

I don't follow the home sets at all, but I've had the same thought in my light tracking of casino Paulsons, that prices are decreasing, even if only slightly.

The most striking example, imo, is DeCarlo's Crystal Parks that are sitting unsold in the classifieds. I'm sure he'll find a buyer, but at that price they'd have been bought with an hour 5 months ago.

You've been involved enough in the market here that you're no novice imo, Dan, but you definitely got into the hobby when prices were at an all-time high.

We are in the "denial" phase of the great poker chip bubble of 2016.

Real estate on the other hand is clearly in the "return to normal" phase. Brace yourself!!!!

BTW - I havent hung my display cabinets so I havent figured out what sample sets I want to collect yet, but I do like the WTH&C home chips and will probably want to acquire these at some point.

If anyone has a mint sample tourney set (25-100-500-1000-5000) that they want to end up on my wall for $2.50 / chip, please let me know! I'm looking forward to filling these cabinets over time. TY guys.

I wonder if the casino after seeing what they were going to be selling for decided they wanted more money for the chips?

We know the casino/Paulson saw the thread because of the proof issue.

Hopefully that wakes GPI up and entices them to re-enter the home market.

I'm very new to all of this, but unless they'd do customs, I don't think I'd be interested. Their fantasy sets look great and feel great, but I find myself drawn to casino chips quite a bit more.
As far as pricing goes, I've gone through the classifieds for as far back as I can, and it seems to me that desirability drives prices more than anything else.

John's back! I really like this guy's vids. For the guys who cant afford Paulson's, check this out:
