Just a general question (im newer to this awesome site but i just love poker chips….no idea why i enjoy them so much but i do), why are the higher denom paulson chips so ridiculous in price? I have played poker for over 30 years and i agree with many in thinking paulsons are the best and the more chalky and older they are the better. BUT i think the asking price for aome of these 100 and 500 and 1000 dollar chips is pretty insane. Just wondering why a denomination makes a paulson so much more valuable? I have a ton of ncv paulson pharos (the first run) and i know that i can likely get a decent amount for the black chips and the orange chips i have in that set above the whites and the reds. I realize the higher denoms are likely circulating a bit less but why the exponential cost difference sometimes? Thanks - trying to get myself better educated on the paulson chips. Thank you

Paulson chips are very high in value due to paulson no longer providing to the public. in my opinion, they are the best in the business and with serious poker players that appreciate great quality, i think its a supply/demand thing going on. i have 1000 + paulson noirs and have been offered 9K for my set and turned it down and really dont think i would ever sell them....

Welcome to the forums guys!

Its going to depend on a few things, in general higher denoms are brighter colors, Blaze Orange, Arc Yellow, vibrant high contrast colors is where the money correlates to higher denom chips. Some times history plays into it, sometimes rarity.

Could be wrong & open to hear others thoughts. IMO it’s lower supply but not much lower demand. Nearly anyone wanting a $500+ chip here is wanting it for a tournament set or to relabel. For those needs the buyer will need a higher, sometimes much higher, percentage of any high denomination than the majority of casinos carry themselves. That creates a shortage of high denoms in our market and an excess of certain other denoms like $25s. The same type of increased prices can also be seen in fracs. Home buyers’ needs just outpace what the average casinos needs for them have been.

That and generally you’ll need fewer of these chips in your set (think $100s in a cash set or $5ks in a tourney set) so you’re willing to pay substantially more to get them than you’d pay for your workhorse chips.

if people want anything bad enough, they will pay if they are passionate and that also drives the market. Paulsons are very good chips to have and hold on to. i have alot of tourneys at my house and have alot of people show up knowing its quality chips and nobody can sneak in the standard cheap chips that everyone seems to have

Supply and demand.. there are less high denoms in the market than $1 or $5 Prices are also high for snappers and other oddities

Also what you have to realize is the standard Paulsons are 39mm, some higher denom chips are larger at 43mm and called IHC (inverted hat cane mold). These are in very high demand. So that in combination with being in far less supply and often highly bright and desirable colors and spot patterns leads to a price significantly higher that the lower denoms.

Thanks crew - i truly appreciate the lesson and some of it is what i thought already but there is some very good info in the responses - thank you.
