First things first, I'm pretty new here, but just purchased my first real Paulson set, CDI 05.

I saw a gorgeous set of Paulson Classics for sale up on classifieds and I am becoming interested in opinions and views on the forum regarding Paulson Mold Classic chips versus Casino de Isthmus (CDI '05) - they seem to me like very comparable chip sets.

Also, what are your takes on the PAULSON mold vs traditional THC or RHC?

CDI '98 are superior to both

They are the same chips with just different inlays. Also, you can add Pharaohs in there too (although they can also be found in the much preferable Suits mold IMO). I believe the forum consensus will be Pharaohs > CDI > Classics. CDI 05s are plagued by the fact that a lot of people prefer the THC mold of CDI 98 over Paulson mold.

My preference of Paulson molds:
THC, Suits > Pineapple > Paulson > House (a few are preferable to Paulson) > RHC > Roulette

I have chip sets of both versions of these chips...as far as I can tell the only difference is the same mold with different inlays. Just my opinion but I prefer the CDI’s version, the white center inlays just floats my boat a little better. So go with what you like the best is my $0.02

Classic inlays are just so meehhhhhh to me esp the $1/$1000. Total turnoff imo.

THC>Paulson>RHC

Great point about the Pharaohs. Interesting you prefer Paulson over house molds. Do you think that is typical?

While I agree with you, they don't float my boat, I can see how some people may like them. The inlays match the spot colors decently, which is not everyone's cup of tea. I can only assume they look better in person than in photos.

Are they? I’ve never handled either, but from the pictures, it looks like the mold for the CDI’s has a bigger recess (with a smaller inlay) than the mood for the classics.

you are correct, although people usually just call them Paulson mold. The pharaohs and classics are on one and the CDI on the other. I haven’t owned either set but I have samples of both and while they are clearly different, that physical difference makes not much difference of feel in the hand IMO. If push came to shove I would prefer the Classics/Pharaohs version mold.

On the Paulson Chips mold, specifically, I prefer the larger recess of the RHC-like ‘05 CDI to the smaller recess of the Classics and Pharaoh’s.

I otherwise like THC better than RHC.

Well y’all are correct never noticed the mold was a little different - the inlay in the CDI is flat outside of the inlay itself and in the classics no flat spot, rather the cross hatching on that chip goes all the way to the inlay.

Paulson house mold, the one on classics and pharaohs, is an absolute monster (in a good way). I love the large surface area of cross hatching. That being said, if the cross hatching gets worn down they become very flat and start to look and feel like a flat-ass worn Bud Jones chip. Nonetheless, I think it's a top mold. Diecar, Nevada - love all the molds with a ton of cross hatching.

That being said, THC is probably the best there was or ever will be. Straight silk even if they're moderately worn or more. I'd line my coffin with that texture if I wasn't going to be cremated.

I much prefer the Casino de Isthmus City inlay design over the boring and horrible edge spot color-matched inlays of the Classic Top Hat & Cane set, although I've never been a big fan of the CdIC inlay, either (don't care for the hard-to-read denomination on top of the busy green/white background).

Both versions of the 39mm PAULSON CHIPS advertising mold are simultaneously boring and glaring in-your-face mold designs, and I don't particularly care for either one -- although inlays look much better in the flat Classic version, since the recess is way too large for a standard 7/8" inlay in the recessed version. The no-recess version handles (and sounds, imo) much better, due to increased surface tension from the larger chip-to-chip contact area.

The THC mold is vastly superior in design and performance to any of the other nine 39mm Paulson molds -- RHC, Lammer, Roulette, Card Pips, Web, Diamond, Paradise, and the two PAULSON CHIPS versions. Custom casino house molds typically range from poor to acceptable in terms of design and performance.
