Paulson Casino de Isthmus chips - highly coveted, semi-rare, or just a plain ol’ set? (1 Viewer)

Now that’s something! I wonder who’s got the movie prop chips with the red text. They probably won’t ever sell them unless they’re going broke!

I wonder if there are other movies with poker chip props that might be out there somewhere...
The Rounders Movie Chips were made by ASM at ththe time on their Roman Mold, after the movie they made Replica chips on other Molds but not on the same Mold from my understanding, but the originals are floating around...

Not sure where the Posideon TRK chips are now, but they were used in the movie "Posideon"

They sell exact movie Replicas at Walmart from the movie "Molly's Game" that's right $10k buy in with regular ole Dice chips. They did upgrade through the movie to custom chips which were slugged Canyon Bluff chips! Lol

But one of the Funniest ones I have found was the final Scene from the movie "21" many of us have movie prop chips from that one!

Atleast theytook the time to put a label on that one. But the one right after that is what I find Halarious

Damn I guess it was too much effort to over label them all!

Most people would probably never catch that one, but for a chipper seeing some fantasy chips used in a movie "casino" that's pretty Halarious.

So anyone with WTHC $5ks you own the exact chips that were used in a movie! Lol

In the movie, the scene in the casino where JB is playing blackjack with plaques has some shots with the dealer tray full of chips, but no really clear shot of the faces to see if they match the above.

Update: a still shot of the blackjack table from casino scene clearly shows a few rows of the pink $500 shaped-inlay chips in the dealer tray next to the plainer high denomination plaques.

I'm probably in the minority. But for me the progression of best set from top to bottom is:

98 Paulsons > BCCs > 05 Paulsons

No question the 98s are the best of the trio.

For me, the BCC set is better than the 05 set. Due to the better spot progression than the 05s. And also, just not a fan of the 05 Paulson mold.

A lot of oblong inlays with the BCC set though.
I have a set of 600 98 Paulson's with the top hat and cane inlay. Are these more valuable than the other versions?

Most valuable to least valuable:
  • Top Hat/Cane movie props
  • Top Hat/Cane with shaped inlays (98)
  • Top Hat/Cane with round inlays (98)
  • Paulson Chips mold (05)
The movie props are pretty rare so don't expect to find any in quantity, but it seemed weird to leave them off the list.

I believe so. As I understand it, those were the first series, and the originals usually are more expensive. Not only that, I think the top hat mold is preferred over the Paulson house mold (by some). I’m currently selling an ’05 set which varies in price from $3-$10 per chip depending on the denomination and where you sell it. I think the ‘98s could fetch a higher base price per chip.
As a collector, I would definitely keep a first-print set and let it appreciate in value over time. If you are of a mindset where they‘ve run its course in your home and you’re looking to explore a new set, then I’m sure you could fetch a decent price for them.

Whatever your decision, they are still a great set!

Need photos of this 'top hat and cane inlay'.

Agree with this exactly

Oh yes, the shaped inlay THC chips are much less available than the shaped inlay chips, for sure. Now, having said that, coming across shaped inlay $25, $100, and $500 isn't quite as rare as you might think, but it would be a minor challenge to assemble full racks of them.

The shaped inlay $5 is the rarest of all of these. I've never even seen a full barrel in one spot, never mind a full rack. I have 17, myself, and that is thanks to the generosity of another member here.

I’m up to two racks of $100 shaped inlays and a barrel of the $5 shaped inlays

No $25, no $500

I liked the look of those plaques....

...
One thing I learned on the journey of building this momster set... I was always curious why soo many of the sets seemed to be soo limited in the $1k chip? Was it the Arch Yellow color? Well no it wasn't, again from my understanding in 2005 (I was playing home tourneys then) the majority of tournament sets wereT5 based and not yet into the T25 base that is so common now! (Hell now many casinos and home games are going with a T100 base chip based off of efficiency... basically the 100 has much more use than the limited T25 that is typically removed relatively quickly in the game.

Anyways because the majority of home game holsters were running T5 based tourneys there was far less demand for that Denomination of chip. (Typically in a single table game with a T5 base you don't need any or many T1000s) so they didnt manufacture as many ofthat high denom chip.
...
I have a set of 1000 CDI05s I purchased around 2007 and only 100 of them are the $1k chips. For the exact reason you specified. We used them for T5 based tournaments or for a 0.05/0.10 cash game. If we ran a deeper stacked tournament or a 3 table tournament the $1ks would come out. And for a cash game they basically never came out because we had so many $1/$5 chips.
Percentage wise, I'd guess even tournament sets of the era wouldn't have bought many $1k chips and cash sets basically never would have. I wouldn't be surprised if it's <5% of all CDI05's are 1k.
I love the color on them! In fact I was missing a barrel of them until I found it this weekend when I was cleaning up. I had used them as counters when I played the Game of Thrones LCG.
