Paris flipping. (1 Viewer)

Even with a generous tip, my brother had no luck at the cages yesterday! Hopefully others will have more luck.
He most likely went to the main casino cage. Have him go to the WSOP, back in area between Ballys & Paris. The WSOP Poker cages sell chips for cash games. He doesn't need to say anything but what chips he wants....as long as they are still running cash games.

While it occasionally does happen Main Casino Cages do not sell chips. Off top of my head I can't remember if it's against NV Gaming Regs, to comply with anti-money laundering laws, or both.

Also when the line at the cage is long, just buy from the players trying to cash chips. Every does it to avoid the wait.
where is the cage for the cash games? we were there a couple weeks ago and staying at Bally's and was didn't even know the WSOP was going on. So of course i walked through a couple times. From what I figured the cash games were all the way in the back of the main ballroom and I saw what resembled a cage. I just walked through the main artery of the ballroom because I had to convince my better half that we were just going to walk through. I took a thousand to try and get a couple racks of 5's but didn't want to lose 2000 getting them. Almost walked up to an empty craps table at Ballys on the way to the airport and asked for 100 change in nickels.

Every regular cage I went to told me they couldn't, and told me they could only give me 1 chip, and they would most of the time try and find you the best one they had unprompted. And then they would say you have to get them at the tables. this was at ballys, paris, flamingo and Circus Circus. So every chance I got which was few. I went to a table and gave em 10 bucks and asked for singles. All gave em to me except paris Blackjack told me to go to the craps table, I did and boom, had 10 more to carry around all day.

Small in comparison but slowly over trips this past year have a few hundred chips. I would say the best little score I got was a t Jerrys Nugget, those chips were beat to hell, and went to the cage after craps and cashed in all my fives and asked the guy for 10 singles back to take home, he goes in the back brings out 10 Mint 1s. tipped him and as we are walking out could not resist. Went back to the cage and said "You know these are really nice, I am really trying to get a barrel of 20", comes back with 10 more mint. Tipped again and left. wonder if I asked for 100 if I would have got it, but this was my first harvesting attempt I believe.

My friend was there this past Monday and they told him he wasn’t allowed to remove chips from the room. He’s a diamond rewards member but that didn’t matter.

Yeah the only cage that will sell chips is the one in back by the WSOP cash games.

I mean, he was only doing it as a favour, so I'm really not too bothered either way. Like I said, I'll be there in November and will give it a more thorough go then. Appreciate yours and @slisk250's advice!

Did they stop him at the doors? I never encountered any problems or told anyone what I was doing. buy chips, tuck under arm next to backpack, head for the doors scanning for guys in suits. I’d stop for a couple seconds at an empty table, throw chips in bag and gone. If they are getting stingy at the cage. Throw down 350 and ask for 3 barrels of 5s and 2 barrels of 1s. If you don’t want the 5s, cash them at the normal Paris cage. No way they refuse a mixed rack. Why the 1s…tip money for drinks.

I made friends with this cage girl, told her I was superstitious and made the same order every time, even telling her these were for my wife and I’d be back in a few minutes to get mine…10 buck tip every time.

do those 2's come out of the cage very easily? or should I go at a high volume time? use the superstitious line? Or just be like "2 rcks of 2s and 2 racks of 1's"?

The first time when I asked for 200 1s with 210 on the counter saying this is for you, the blues appeared. Then I asked for 100 2s and dropped 210 again saying I’m superstitious and I was taking them to my wife at a different table. This cashier did not play poker, didn’t have any clue. Short lady with glasses from El Salvador.

If you are trying to harvest Ballys 5s from the tables during WSOP, the best bet is probably 3 card poker. The craps tables will have 25 min bet and getting 5s is tougher. The 3 card poker tables always had 15 min running and you can max 5s there easy Without putting so much money at risk. In normal times craps is the way baby.

I got $1s as recently as yesterday, but every time I asked they seemed suspicious or asked why I wanted so many ones. Also I got stopped once by a guy in a suit and they just asked me to put them back. Just remember you aren't doing anything illegal. But yeah idk seems like it might be getting slightly more difficult.

This is probably untrue. The chips (and especially racks) are the property of the casino. Sure, it is likely not worth them making a fuss over them due to their sheer profits, but there is a reason they are skeptical of people and have not been freely handing them out before getting careless with this last event. Before this, only really Flamingo seemed to not give a shit.

Once you give them cash for it it becomes your property with their logo on it

I'm curious as to if anyone knows the answer. I bet it's been covered in length multiple times on the site but don't see a final result.

FWIW, when we harvested, we specifically took 0 racks for that reason, we hadn't paid for them. I'm confused as to how/why a casino would stop folks even if they could unless they had suspicion. Like if I'm a degenerate, and I'm sitting on 2k at 4 am, maybe I don't want to wait in line? I'm going back to my room and will back tomorrow with my 2k.

Maybe I'm superstitious and I like to sleep with my chips for good luck. Dependent on my dreams I'll use those chips the next day or ask for new ones. So give me my $5k in chips in $5s and I'll be back tomorrow! :ROFLMAO:

No, this is definitely true. Even if they're the property of the casino, you aren't doing anything illegal unless you don't give them back when they ask you to.

What right do they have to ask for the chips back then, if it becomes your property on exchange?

State of Nevada Regulations of the Nevada Gaming Comission & Nevada Gaming Control Board:

https://gaming.nv.gov/modules/showdocument.aspx?documentid=11943

Page 169:
12.060 Use of chips and tokens. 1. Chips and tokens are solely representatives of value which evidence a debt owed to their custodian by the licensee that issued them and are not the property of anyone other than that licensee.

I'm still reading but it's certainly interesting for people here to go through this section.

This, however, is not correct. Nevada gaming regulations (which have the force of law) stipulate that chips remain the property of the casino no matter who holds them. The chips signify that the casino owes a debt to the holder of the chip, but the chip itself is the casino's property; the casino is obligated to redeem the chip by paying the holder, but the chip itself is still the casino's property even before the chip is redeemed.

Among other things, this is to ensure that chips can never be considered a currency under federal regulations. A chip is not currency because when I give it to you in exchange for something, I didn't own it before the exchange and you don't own it after the exchange; the casino owned it all along, and still does. Whereas if I give you a dollar bill, I own it before and you own it after.

Just like when you write a check to the landlord the apartment becomes your property?
Yes, just like that, actually. I think. Like, you definitely own some level of interest in the property, but you probably don’t hold title, free and clear.

I don't think they have a right, except to offer to buy them back.
No, the casinos definitely have the right to confiscate your chips. The chips belong to the casino. However, they are obligated to pay you in order to settle their debt to you if you present the chips to them for redemption. HOWEVER however, they are not obligated to pay you if they have reason to believe that you are not the legitimate holder of that debt, i.e. if you came by those chips illegitimately rather than by paying the casino for them or winning them through gambling with the casino. Some examples of coming by chips illegitimately include picking them up off the floor or buying them from someone else (i.e. using them as currency). In such cases, the casino can simply confiscate the chip and not pay you for it. This sometimes happens with super-high super-rare denominations; if you walk in off the street with a $100,000 chip the casino won't cash it for you without asking a lot of questions, because they have very few of those in circulation and they know who all their high-rollers are.

I bought 3 $500 lammers from some guy for $1400. I used them to buy into a tournament and the cashier goes "how did you get these, your players card says you haven't played a tourney this year " . Definitely thought there was a chance they might be confiscated, but then some manager came by and said it was fine, let him use them. Phew!

So in short:

1. If they ask for them back, you have to give them back.

2. If you give them back, they have to pay you for them.

3. ... except sometimes they don't have to pay you for them, but that's only for extremely unusual situations which don't apply here.

4. But in any case, if they don't ask for them back, you can keep them for as long as you like. In other words, it's not illegal to walk out with chips, even though it's true that they don't belong to you.

Glad we had a Nevada attorney here to clear things up for us.

I Am Not A Lawyer and certainly could be wrong but it's not hard to read the relevant laws and look up what little precedent exists on the subject. I'd be quite happy to defer to someone with specific expertise in this area if anyone wants to weigh in.

I think my above post (#199) has the answers. I finished reading that section and it's quite clear, unless there are later amendments located elsewhere.

Interesting
That was sarcasm
I’m no Nevada lawyer either. And I doubt anybody is getting arrested for taking a rack of chips out of a casino. But I think everybody should be careful about speaking in certain terms or giving out legal advice.
I’d also be careful about taking like 60 racks from a casino and then posting about it on the internet. Again, I doubt any casino is gonna waste their time pursuing it. But then again, it sounds like the Paris “lost” tens of thousands of new chips in the past month - that has to have them annoyed, doesn’t it?
