Paid help with design for Pacific Northwest themed set (1 Viewer)

I think it may be more because the skyline is made up of thick and thin black lines so it kind of almost looks like writing itself. Have you tried a filled-in silhouette of the skyline to see what it looks like?

Another idea to set the "Emerald City" text apart from the skyline is to use color. Do you know what edge spot colors you'll be using? Perhaps you could match the text color to one of the edge spots (if the edge spot colors are lighter, use a darker shade).

I can play around with that. The chips for this set are at all he top of this thread “(“Card Club”), except there’s also a blaze orange for the same set that I acquired after I started this thread.

Oops, brain fart. :ROFLMAO:

If you don't want to do color matching, maybe a dark rich green for "Emerald City" for all the chips to help it pop above the skyline.

In theory I like the latter idea and tried that at one point, but I felt that the inclusion of the Emerald Green lettering either clashed with and/or distracted from the coloring on the Needle.

Yes, you said this much better than I did. The font of "Emerald City", and the color and thickness of the font and skyline are so similar, that it makes it confusing. Like the idea of using a different color for "Emerald City", and perhaps a different font.

Good, let's use the chips with the ferry on them, when I come to your home game. Thanks :)

Maybe play with the opacity of the skyline. If you fade the skyline a little, it may both emphasize the space needle and not compete with the “Emerald City” even if you keep the text color black.

Thanks for the feedback, I’ll play around with the design for the first set and make sure I use the ferry set when you come for my hopefully to be up and running by the Summer home game

Why don’t you just call this “Space Needle Poker Club” or something like that. Seems like the space needle is the center of anything in this design. Is that the only landmark in the PNW? Do you guys worship it?

I may just fully embrace the Needle and go with Aces and Anal Probes Poker and call it a day on this set lol.

I think the last mockup is an improvement, whether you stick with black on "Emerald City" or use the green (if you're worried about it clashing with the Space Needle color). At actual inlay size, the Space Needle is still recognizable especially in context (though the "needle" at the very top might disappear), but I wonder if you might want to make it more prominent?

Quick and dirty mockup using your last post, I converted the image into vector and separated it into the different components, since I don't have the source assets, so the graphics don't look as clean:

Added a gradient to the skyline so I could push it further down, and then enlarged the space needle. Like I said it didn't convert to vector very cleanly because I didn't have a high res copy of the image or the original vector, but just to give you an idea.

I like that and think it will look better at actual chip size than my current space needle, thanks!

Someone got up on the wrong side of the bed.
No anger, just curious as to why the dance around the obvious focus of the inlay. Like there are no other landmarks in the PNW that anyone can readily identify?
I lol because almost anyone who plays with these is going to think it’s a tribute to Frazier or the 1963 World Fair

Almost anyone who plays with these is going to think it's a tribute to...the 1963 World Fair?

I suspect there are more people alive today that would think of "Seattle" when they see an image of the Space needle, before they think "1963 World Fair".
But then again, most people alive today were not here for the 1963 World Fair.

Since I am also a PNW resident (in Oregon), I'll pipe up and say Mt. Hood is also pretty iconic. However, I can understand why folks would also identify the space needle. In my experience, most of the "PNW" art seems to involve an image of Native artwork of a salmon or something similar. Maybe I'm spending too much time at their casinos...

I'm interpreting this to mean that if I have a salmon jumping over the Needle with the Mountain in the background, I should have all of my bases covered :)

You better get Pike Place Market in there somehow.

Maybe have the Starbucks mermaid "walking" a tightrope between Mount Hood and Mount Rainier?

Perhaps the salmon will have a Pike Market flag in his mouth
Hey guys come on, he’s making a space needle tribute set and you guys are going to confuse him.
But if you are going to feature something you should learn a little about it, it’s not a natural formation. It was built for a purpose, and it wasn’t to represent the entire Pacific Northwest.
