Fixed limit can be nice. Could take or leave fixed-limit Hold'em, though.

This sort of game is license to print money. All Hero has to do is fold seven times out of ten preflop. Yep, fold the bottom 70% of your range and play the other 30%. This isn't a flipament, it is shooting fish in a barrel. Tighter would be better, but I fear folks would die of boredom.

Perhaps this sort of game isn't fun for some folks. And the variance is high for sure. Oh, and the win rates aren't huge. But it is basically free money so long as there isn't a rake.

it is a good drinking game -=- DrStrange

+1. And with how much you fold, you can easily 4-6+ table online to push the hourly rate up to a respectable level. Fun? ‘Eh. Profitable? Most definitely if done correctly!

I've always done well at LHE. Some of my best live sessions were in 4/8 and 6/12 LHE games. Buy in for 2 racks, cash out with 8-10 racks.

You can mostly play on autopilot and just have fun chatting and drinking.

I find that people either loosen up way too much or not enough in no-fold'em Hold'em.

Your 30/70 assessment is about right IMO. When you're at a table with a lot of loose players taking everything to the flop and chasing every other hand to the river, you still need to be selective, but you don't need to hunker down and wait for premium hands. If pots are commonly going 5- and 6-handed, you have a bit of room to play speculative hands, especially suited aces and connectors, in addition to your standard pairs and big cards. Bigger pots will offer you better odds for your draws, and a better return on your made hands.

You'll get sucked out on more often too, but that's just part of the game. The upside is that you won't get your whole stack in the middle and then get sucked out on, or get tricked into paying off a rivered gutshot for way more than all of your EV+ plays on previous rounds. You just lose one bet at a time. When you do win big pots, though, they'll tend to be kinda mountainous compared to the stakes, and you'll have to really screw up across a long series of bets to lose it all.

Highly recommend Small-Stakes Hold'em by Miller/Sklansky/Malmuth for reading material on specifically how to crush super-loose Hold'em games.

This is the book that turned the game profitable for me!

I've only played FL (Holdem) in the casino a couple of times, but in both sessions I've played tight and done well.

When I play at a meetup, however, I become one of those "see lots of flops" kind of players. Combine that with the fact that Holdem is almost never in the mix, and I'm probably long-term break even at best.

It depends heavily on how your opponents are playing. If just about every hand is seeing 5+ players to the flop, you can widen your choice of openers quite a bit. Not offsuit gappers UTG or anything, but like DrStrange said above, something like top 30% of openers, despite the fact that this is considered pretty loose. (Naturally, you have to factor in your position and the action, but I'm assuming a reasonably competent player.)

If the casino games you played featured a similar table texture, you were leaving money on the table by playing tight. A lot more hands can become profitable when you're surrounded by people who will thoughtlessly pay you off to the river.
