I have just recieved some samples of the Port Royal collection, I am really digging them and I'm thinking of getting a set for tournament games, using the 25/100/500/1000/5000 denominations.

Looking for people to give their 2 cents on the matter.

Ceramics, huh? They look quite alright to me. Have you compared them against any other types of chips?
They are ceramic, I have compared them with Ascona ceramics, and the clay Monte Carlo.

The description from the online store:

10g Ceramic Chip Range / Inspired by ancient Caribbean port

Designed in house, exclusively to Jacks Poker, the Port Royal Range was inspired by the infamous port founded
in 1518 by the Spanish, once the largest city in the Carribean fuelling commerce and shipping through the channels.
As a port city, it was notorious for its gaudy displays of wealth and loose morals, attracting English and Dutch- sponsored privateers to spend their treasure during the 17th century. We envisioned a private casino on the island drawing on the vibrant colours and optimism of the era.

Made from fully printed ceramic these chips have a superb premium feel and distinct look.

Monte carlo chips are slugged ABS plastic, not clay by a long shot.

Edit: Not saying Monte Carlos are bad, but they’re not clay.

They look great. But the off-center spots would tilt the hell out of me. That 1000 would look great if the spots were centered and the rolling edge was lined up. :confused

I'm guessing they're quite inexpensive? If approaching 0.50 a chip (USD), you might be able to find a better deal from forum vendors for a little more. I suppose Australian shipping is a big factor, though.

Print job quality is pretty horrible on that 1000 chip, and the colors chosen severely lack adequate contrast on the 25, 500, and 5000 chips. I'd be concerned with edge alignment, and a high reject rate relative to my personal standards.

Yeah they are 0.66 (AUS) a chip, which is about 0.45 USD
Shipping looks to be an expensive option, but it may be worth it.

Just got a sample set of these and found your post via google. Did you pull the trigger? these are my favourites of those easily accessible in Australia.
Let me put it in a way a fellow Ozzie can understand. Whilst the colours are pretty the overall quality is shithouse. Cards mold are your friend
