Since there was no chip convention this year, I'm guessing there are more holes in our sample sets than usual this time of year. It's difficult to get any traction on random wanted listings in the classifieds section these days. They get so overwhelmed by all the wanted ads that stuff gets overlooked or ignored in the sea of chaos. But if we organized a sub-forum ahead of time and gave everyone who was interested in participating enough time to prepare and gets pics ready, we might be able to pull off a fun, interactive Online Chip Convention where we all post singles that we have available for trade and/or sale.

Thoughts? Would you participate? If so, when should we do it? How should we structure it?

Seems like shipping kills all the cheaper stuff, which is probably more than half of the stuff.
But I'm listening . . .

I posted a listing the other day with a bunch of singles that I didn't need or had duplicates of. I sold 98 of them, and several were just people looking to buy 1 or 2 chips. It seems like the appetite for singles in this community is stronger than I had anticipated.

With respect to shipping costs, ya it adds to the price, but then again so does a flight, hotel room, and entry to the convention...

RIP my wallet because I can’t resist some nice singles. Interested as a buyer but no real interest in selling (singles black hole here)

Thoughts:
  • A “singles” tag in the classifieds would be a nice start.
  • A dedicated singles sales sub-forum would be even better.
  • My work actually did an online trade show earlier this spring, the uptake was surprisingly high. Given enough lead time I’m certain people could:
    • Register for PCF (if need be)
    • gather what they want to sell
    • Take pics and price singles
    • Be ready for “go live”
For me, I get the appeal of a doing an “event” but does that just complicate it? Why add constraints? Why not just a going concern?

I do understand, for sure, the appeal of a limited window, event type thing so not just trying to neg on that at all, just thinking why not take this and make it a going concern.

I bet if we gave them enough time to prepare and for the word to get around the singles community, this might be a strong enough pull to get them to start posting here. It blows my mind that those guys still use that god awful chipboard.

Maybe. Interesting idea. I’d be interested in this, and could take pics of all of my spare singles.

But with denizens of thechipboard involved, it would likely devolve into this: A Chip Convention Play in One Act.
