A great night coming to an end. In for €140 total and out for €116. Last hand bringing some excitement as @OfficerLovejoy and @Thomacetti play a big double board Omaha bomb pot:

I’ll make a proper write up tomorrow, but I just want to say it was a real pleasure meeting everyone and I had such a great time! Special thanks to Angelo (and Angelo’s lovely wife) for opening up their home to us degens!

The chips and chips discussions are the best!!! Wish we had some audio of that, some good information flowing around I’m sure! Looks like a blast, the river meetup will have to be coordinated with this next year to line up.

Waiting at the airport so good time to make a little trip report. First off, Köln was great. Both the wife and I had an awesome time. Wish I didn’t have the stupid crutched and had been able to walk more, but at least we made it to the Cologne Triangle building and got a great view of the city from above. Also, the dome was freaking awesome, both inside and outside. Will happily come back to the city.

Saturday was poker day and @Thomacetti was kind enough to pick me up at our airbnb and spared me a walk to the train station. It was so nice to finally meet you in person. It was like a 20 min drive to Angelo so we had time for a nice chat about chips (duh), guitars, HR (we’re in the same line of work) and US meet-ups (I’m definitely coming with you to one sooner or later).

Next we picked up @w00zie aka Stefan aka the German with the golden sets. Great to meet you and to get to fondle all the awesome chips you brought. I’m super envious of the BCC Lotus one :).

Arriving at Angelo’s I spotted one familiar face @Mr_Y3RAC . Super great to see you again, I am proud of how deep you fallen into the rabbit hole! Thanks for bringing those Palomars for us to drool over!

We also got to meet a newer pcf member, Fabian @DerFabo . Great to see you, man! Something tells me we’ll be seeing you with a clay set of your own pretty soon after Thomas sent you on your way down the rabbit whole with his awesome gift.

Arriving late was Peter @Santa123 after a 3 hour delayed flight from Croatia. That’s some dedication! Great to meet you in person and thank you so much for the ride back!

It was also very nice to meet all the Bullenrunde regulars. I hope they will keep coming even though @Thomacetti pretty much single handedly busted them :)

Last, but certainly not least, our wonderful host Angelo @OfficerLovejoy So great to finally meet you (and your family, you’ve got a couple of great future players in the making)! After all of our pokernow games it felt like we already knew each other, even though you are much taller than I imagined. Thank you so much for organizing and hosting this event and getting a bunch Kölschers for us thirsty chippers! I had such a great time and hopefully this was just the first of many great Europe meet ups!

Huge thanks to everyone for making this happen!
@heiterbiswolkig we’ll catch you next time.

Trip report

One night in Cologne

After an awsome PHilly/Vegas trip in September and a short cameo from @ekricket @k9dr & @moose…the Cologne meet-up at @OfficerLovejoy was next up.

After finally meeting so many awsome people in the US, it was time to meet some of my EU chipper brethren.

Left Belgium at 13.30h for a quick drive to Cologne again, I love the German autobahn… with Köln approaching fast, I checked the route to my first pickup point

80A5C136-A0D9-4614-926A-03DFCFB6E064.jpeg

Rendez vous at @Eriks hotel.
Erik is an awsome addition to the EU chippers army (and any army for that matter) and showed plenty dedication and love for chipping. He will soon be a regular in the many meet-ups to come (EU & Stateside).

We had a great conversation driving to the next pickup point, where oldtimer @w00zie was waiting for us. We go back a long way but never meet in person…a great chipper that should post more of his awsome sets. Great meeting you and looking forward to our next meet-up.

Now the party was complete, parked the car… @OfficerLovejoy aka Angelo is living in a nice neighbourhood so no worries and free parking too. We were welcomed by the host and a table of his regulars. We took place at the chipweirdo table and started to talk shop and exchange our gifts.

Me telling Stefan and Erik that the Cartamundi BE casino stock is the NuTS  :ROFLMAO: (Nederpoker)

Yes Sir, great scores…thanks fellas

We started with some circus games, incl. @Ben8257 his awsome addition with the Flamingo Cologne limit set

F7FE71B7-B82D-4D7B-B868-EAFEC492C232.jpeg

Game started rough since I could not hit for shit, missed draws and being outflopped by Nit and Nitter  :ROFLMAO: ;) was bad for my stack. Lost about 60% before we switched to regular NLHE and PLO And switched from limit set to full cash set.

chips incl pot sweetener

Soon after that, we switched and combined tables…new chips and full table, time to get my poker on.

I was running great…and even when I didn’t…

I was still raking the last pot, then I had to act and took a quick look at my cards…ready to muck them. I see JJ and reraise to get jammed on by a short deck in late position.

I insta-call his 30 something stack and he shows QQ I turn over J6, eh WTF
Yeah…misread by me

I apologise…flop is JJ6, brick brick
I offered his money back and apologised again for the suck out.
He didn’t want any of that and said GG, it happens…classy reaction

I ran great for the rest of the evening and felted most of Angelo’s regulars (or they cashed out)

This was last action on double boarded Omaha, you can see Angelo’s last bet of 50€ and I’m counting the pot.

Called it for an expected chop…good judgement of the hand.

That concluded a great meet-up at 2ish in the morning…I had a blast and it was a pleasure meeting my EU chip brothers… @Mr_Y3RAC (LOVE your Palomars) @DerFabo (welcome to the clay club) @Santa123 (how awsome you still came to play after a 3h delay, THANKS) @w00zie (thanks so much for the cards, hope to see more of you on & off forum) @Eriks (my EU BCC brother from another mother, heal well son and apply for a visa or Esta in 2023 ;)) And @OfficerLovejoy…THANKS for organising and hosting a perfect meet-up and opening your house to us.

This is a great start for the EU meet-up scene…

Have a great Sunday at all and thanks for reading

To recap my meetup experience I go back to the morning before my little flat got transformed into a poker den for one night only.
I had hever tried to set up 2 tables so for the last 4 weeks my wife caught me several times crouching behind the couch or the kitchen table with a measuring tape.
Here's the apartment in its natural, and - because of my two kids - playground-esque state.

Meetup Cologne 2022-2.jpg

So I got the table topper out of the master bedroom to set it up on a little garden table I borrowed from a neighbor - seen here in the upper right corner.
Since I don't own enough chairs, I borrowed 8 of those as well. All stacked up in our bedroom (to my wifes delight obv.).
Meetup Cologne 2022-4.jpg

Creating some space between the TV and the couch for the kitchen table and the flamingo poker mat.

And the Bullenrunde table topper on the garden table all set up with my oldest son watching cartoons on my computer in the background since the kitchen table was blocking his view on the televeision.
Meetup Cologne 2022-6.jpg

I got some snacks to keep the guests happy until the evening when we would order pizza. I might have forgotten to keep these filled up since I was having so much fun playing myself. Hope everyone still made it comfortably until the pizza finally arrived.
Meetup Cologne 2022-8.jpg

As these things go, there were quite a few people running late. This couldn't stop the early birds who came 15:00h sharp from starting a quick round of .75/1.5€ - 3 chip game with quarters - SOHE on the Flamingo limit set. From left to right: Julian (Julian - Bullenrunde regular or municipal worker as Worm would call them, @DerFabo , Björn - our actual sarge and Bullenrunde regular, Horst - Bullenrunde regular, and Lukas - Oceans Club regular)

Meetup Cologne 2022-10.jpg

After the rest of players arrived, we moved the non-PCF portion to the Bullenrunde table where the game commenced in the popular .25/.50 NLHE format.
The PCF-crew flooded the flamingo table with showcase chips to see feel and talk about chips.
From left to right: @w00zie , @Thomacetti , (hidden in the background - you can only see a hat) @Mr_Y3RAC and @Eriks

@w00zie brought some awesome shuffle stack samples for us to oogle: PCAs, Casablancas, Aztar MO, LCO and Empress Joliet.

@Mr_Y3RAC got to showcase his ongoing project of getting a playable Palomar set together. Those arc yellow $5s truly are insane.
Meetup Cologne 2022-13.jpg

I got several guest gifts and I couldn't be more thankful. A small highlight among many was the spotted bird. You guys know me, I'm a flamingo guy.

Although I did quite well in the mixed games like SOHE & DRAMAHA, I couldn't get anything going in big bet games at first.
Meetup Cologne 2022-15.jpg

We had a pretty juicy sidegame going with a 4bb bounty per person should you win a hand with 72. @Thomacetti claimed his bounty several times whilst I kept either running into good hands or just got sniffed out and lost three 72 hands in a row.
@Eriks 4bet me for an all in in one hand where I was holding 77. The thought, he could hold 72 crossed my mind, but I foldet like a little b*tch bEcaUse I hAd tHe bLoCkeRs. Duh.

Playing on the mixed leaded set with a pretty spectacular pot sweetener sponsored by @Thomacetti who really was the PCF santa for this meetup.

Clemens @Mr_Y3RAC with his eyes on the price - he would in fact be the one to claim the sweet copag coin.

@Eriks nitting it up. ( ;) )
Meetup Cologne 2022-19.jpg

@w00zie in control of the situation (double board NLHE bomb pot)
Meetup Cologne 2022-20.jpg

After the well deserved dinner break where we had 90€ worth of pizza delivered, we merged the tables to join Julian (seat 4) and the other regulars who he had been destroying all day. Prior tries to have him and his big stack moved to our table didn't come to fruition. ;)
Well as the saying goes: if the mountain doesn't come the prophet, the prophet must come to the mountain.
Meetup Cologne 2022-21.jpg

I proceeded to bluff my 72 into trip tens and and had to replenish my stack once again as I had been doing all day. I even used most of the pizza money people were giving me in Bullenrunde Chips.
Up until this point I was in a downward spiral. Being in the game for 150 with plenty of pizza money on top (probably another 50).
After the reload I was sitting on a stack of around 100, being covered by the sunrunning @Thomacetti , the guy who only plays the nuts in position @Eriks and the (former) big stack Julian.

I looked down at :9c::9s: and opened from the HJ, getting called by 4 players including @Eriks.
The flop came :7s::7c::9h:. Well if that isn't a sight for sore eyes. ;)
My cbet gets checkraised by @Eriks who seemed determined to either teach me a lesson or he actually has something decent. I smoothcall.
Turn comes the :6c:.
@Eriks bets again and now I raise, leaving me about a potsize bet for the river. He calls.
River comes the :9d:.
@Eriks checks and I try to get max value from a 7 and go all in for ~68€ - a little over pot.
He says, he'd rather be wrong in calling than being wrong in folding to a bluff of mine and calls, showing :ac::7c: for the cooler.

Just look at my smug face.

Meetup Cologne 2022-24.jpg

Meetup Cologne 2022-25.jpg

Meetup Cologne 2022-26.jpg

I caught Horst bluffing with :ah::qc: in a 4 bet pot on :kc::9d::8s::js::5d: holding :ah::as: for an 80€ pot which grew my stack to about €280.
Meetup Cologne 2022-27.jpg

The last hand on an Omaha double board bomb pot was pretty spectacular with me holding quads on one board and a busted nut flush draw on the other. I ended up splitting the 140€ pot with @Thomacetti who (insert Teddy KGB voice) wasn't gonna be pushed around and called my overbet on the river.
7cd62111-bc25-4436-955c-805912e831bd-jpeg.1006996

And this concluded the meetup at the Lovejoy residence at 2:30 am. After around 11 hours of poker I couldn't be more happy with my guests and the fun I had hosting.
It was stressful, getting everything and everyone organized, doing the preparations and getting the wife and kids to play along on this wild ride.

In the end it was super duper worth it and I will definitely host a PCF meetup again sometime in the future.

I hope everyone made it home safely and had a good time.

Cheers guys
Angelo

Happy that she liked them! But she should not feel the slightest bit bad. It was the least we could do for her for letting us occupy her home and steal her husband for 12 hours.

Ok, now that I'm back home and took a short nap it's time for a wrap-up!

PART 1:

I checked in at the hotel and shortly after got picked up by @Thomacetti and his co-driver @Eriks
Thomas had already been well known on every chipping forum when I became a chipper well over ten years ago – and yesterday was my first time meeting the legend ;) No less great was the joy of meeting Erik in person, we have started getting in touch here on PCF a few months ago. A true gentleman just as I imagined.
We arrived at the @OfficerLovejoy residence and joined fellow chippers @Mr_Y3RAC and @DerFabo . The latter was already playing with the locals at the awesome Bullenrunde table so us five started talking chips and cards and exchanging gifts on the secondary table.
I have to admit it feels good to know that I'm not alone – there are more weird people on this planet that could talk for hours about chips and anything related to it.

@OfficerLovejoy Angelo it was a great pleasure to meet you in person after we had chatted quite a bit about organizing a big Euro Meetup. Let's do it next year! Thanks a lot for inviting a bunch of chip nerds from the internet to your home, it was well worth the trip even for one night only!
You and @Mr_Y3RAC Clemens have pretty amazing collections already, love the dedication and knowledge guys!

Then it was time to play some cards, we started with mixed games. I hadn't played some games ever before but managed to get sucked out on the river in no time like a pro ;) I managed to win like five bucks when we switched to NLHE where I ran the initial 45€ to 95€ which included scooping both boards of a bomb pot with T4os and flipping with @Mr_Y3RAC for his shortish stack.

Part 2 coming soon!
