So recently I changed out my Paulson Chips to ceramics. I’m not sure I really like how the ceramics play. Has anyone
felt the same and went back to clay?

I owned plastics, a ceramic set, and china clays before becoming a hard-core true clay chip convert.

However, I still own both clays and ceramics, in addition to ceramic hybrids.... although clays remain my favorite and see the most use.

I'm not sure I follow, going from Paulson to ceramics feels like going backwards.

Ceramics provide more options with customization on the chip face, but the feel and sound of clay wins out for me. Also the dimple on the side of most ceramics really bothers me.

If you prefer ceramics you'll probably end up saving yourself a lot of money which is a big plus.

I have both. My custom ceramics mean more to me than the clay, but my custom cash ceramic set sees no play, as I will always reach for the LCO's first. But for the tournaments, it's my custom ceramics all the way.

Which ceramics? Is there quality differences between ceramics or are they all pretty much the same thing in terms of feel?

I've owned Chipco, BRPro (pre-ABC), PGI, Sun-Fly, ABC, and GOCC full-face-printed ceramics. Among those, I actually preferred the PGI chips in terms of surface feel, and the current ABC chips in terms of rolling edge configuration and treatment, but all are/were excellent chips imo. Inexpensive ceramics from China tend to have more quality issues (slippery surface, high percentage of spinners, prone to breakage, etc.). You can't go wrong with any of today's Sun-Fly or ABC/BRPro ceramic chips.

Hybrids (ceramics with recessed center and laminated label) and debossed molds (ceramics with mold markings) offer different characteristics than standard ceramics. Size also matters, since performance is somewhat tied to the amount of surface contact area and chip weight.

Very detailed, I've only had set of cermaics and felt a few other ones but to me they were the same, I dont know if the other ones were chipco or not but they had the same textured feel but with really big numbers.

Didn’t read the posts but can answer the title. Not a real fan of ANY 43mm and the second I stopped listening to other hoarders opinions I started to fall in love with more and more chips. I personally love Chipco gritty ceramics. Hot stamps. Yum! RHC too! HHR! BCC! Love em. Last two sets I bought were BOTH ceramic. LOVE em. Read that again. LOVE EM BOTH!!!!

I believe in diversity. I own clays, ceramics, and high-end plastics. Some ex-casino, some fantasy, some custom. Nevada colour progressions, California colour progressions, and non-standard colour progressions. Some in original condition, others well used. All are good, all are usable. Each came at different price points.

Still not finished collecting. Still got a few projects to finish.

I have never gone from Paulson to ceramic only, but have had a few ceramic sets and also a few ceramic samples. Try as I may, I have never been able to like ceramic chips. I don’t like the sound or the feel. There’s some great artwork on ceramics, especially some of the custom sets by members here, but I could never be happy with ceramic chips no matter how nice they look.

My position on ceramic chips is a little strange, since I enjoy high end plastic chips, so much so that I have replaced one Paulson cash set with an Abbiati cash set.

Me to a T.

I like ceramics. Maybe because I’m used to playing tournaments with them. Even Foxwoods has at least one ceramic tournament set. Good ceramics are great to play with.
That said, they’ll never be better than or even as good as good clays.
I’m happy to own both.

I love ceramics, I like the sound of them and the feel is pretty good. I do think clays have the best feel but ceramics are very close for me. I think good ceramics look better.

I went the other way, from ceramics to clay (have ASM, BCC, Paulson). Still love my Chipco ceramics though, and would love having a high-end plastics set one day - but it needs to be the right one. The best quality of either type are all worth owning.

Welcome! It's all a personal preference. Some here love Paulson's or TRKs and don't give ceramics a blink of an eye, others love their ceramics and prefer them over other chips. Ultimately if you decide you still prefer your paulsons over ceramics you may have to go back to clays

Thank you. The only issue I had was the color of the orange 500s - causing dirty stack issues with the 5s (I was a novice chipper back then). I had white 500s made to solve that problem given that we didn’t use 1s much anyway.
