Speaking of which, did I see one where men and women were competing together? Or were the just running both genders simultaneously?

Just the 50k race. The governing authorities have refused to create a 50k for women (similar to not making them play best of 5 sets in tennis), so the IOC is making them drop the mens 50k race walk. Something like that.

I think that was a mixed relay race. They are incorporating more of those I believe, in a few sports.

I like them actually, especially the swimming. It incorporates new strategies because you have to use two men and two women but you get to pick whatever order you want to have them swim in.

Wait!! Are you saying they speed walk a 6 minute mile. I'm trying really hard not to google this to avoid getting a crap ton of stupid new adds...LOL
men's record for 50 km - 31 miles in old money is 3:32:33 so 212 minutes = 6.8 minute miles so a 7 minute mile, I think. Math is hard.
I like running and can probably do a 6 min mile, but not after a keg stand!

Damn....I just tried to run a 6 minute mile. I needed to stop for a shot at minute 5 and the damn treadmill was flashing "only .25 miles in old man!"

Dressage is the ultimate test of horse control that was or is necessary for mounted combat (balance and gait control), hazard avoidance (passage, half-pass), jumping (flying changes, for being on the best lead for a given approach to an obstacle), etc.
Why do you think dressage is the first skill set evaluated in three-day eventing? It's not just to look pretty. If you can't control your horse, you don't want to be asking him to jump over immovable stacks of two-foot-diameter logs. Did you look at the 21 obstacles of last week's eventing competition?
(Yeah, my ex-wife was an excellent dressage and 3-day rider ... on 1200 lb. horses ... at 5'3" and 100 lbs. You probably have no idea how much guts that takes. Try it sometime, you big macho guys.

That's one of the beautiful things about the olympics - there's something for everybody. On the other hand, if you want to be negative there's something for everybody to criticize. I thought water polo was stupid, but this is coming from a guy who always thought that ice hockey was stupid (what's the point of playing on a frictionless surface?) And then I saw team handball.Lol. Games are all contrived, and the olympics shows us that there's always something MORE contrived. But as grumpy as I can be, I love it. It's the little things that get me. I love how the women swimmer winners, gold, silver, and bronze, always hug each other in celebration. I saw a japanese male gymnast fall off that high bar not once, but twice, and he just smiled at his misfortune and he got up there a third time. And the USA womens gymnastics saga this year - it was amazing. Its all good stuff! I can't wait for the winter olympics, when I get to try to explain to my kids how skiing and shooting make sense together.
