In your opinion are chips without edge spots (like solid colour hotstamp tournament chips) worse to play with because they could potentially be harder to count? I want to get a hotstamp tournament set but I'm worried this might be an issue...

I suppose that having no edge spots could make visually estimating your opponent's stack harder. But I don't think it will cause problems counting your own.

Plenty of people have their fracs as solids and solid mixed sets are pretty hot right now based on activity in the classifieds.

I like solid color tournament chips, as long as the colors are distinct we never had any issues

I think that, generally speaking, stack estimates are by height. If there are lots of spots, it could make an estimate a little more challenging and dirty stacks harder to spot.

This is something that I have never considered before, so I think the answer is that it's probably an inestimably small problem if, in fact it's any problem at all.
