Hi everyone and thanks for having me.
I apologize if this is a stupid question or one that has been brought up many times ( I did search for answers but didn't really understand what I read)

I am new to hosting tournaments so I am learning as I go.

I am hosting a 16 player tournament with 1 re-buy

My starting stack in $25,000
it breaks down like this

10 - $100 = $1000
2 - $500 = $1000
8 - $1000 = $8000
1 - $5000 = $5,000
1 - $10,000 = $10,000
_________________________
22 chips for $25,000 Starting stack ( Total of 704 chips if everyone re-buys once) ( I already have the chips needed for this)

I copied this Starting stack from a buddy of mine who has been using this for years.

This is the Blind structure

Everyone LOVES lots of chips so he doesn't color up the $1000.
The question is, should I?

If I were to color up the $1000 should I do it with $5000 chips?
If I color them up with the $5000 there would still be lots of chips still in play. Or would you recommend coloring those up with $25,000 chips.
Meaning WAY less chips on the table.
Also after what blind would I color up?

If anyone is able to help me with figuring out what chips I should color up the $1000's with ( or if I want to do that at all) and quantity of chips needed to make sure I have the right amount when coloring up, that would be very much appreciated.

Also I really want to take out the $10,000 chips and replace them with $5000 or Should I just leave it and keep the $10,000 chips?

The more chips on the table the better

Sorry for the long post just hoping what I am asking makes sense

Thanks

I would ditch the 10K chip and add 2 5k... if breakdown allows then add 2 or 4 more T500 and 4 (or 3) T1000 chips and only hand out 2 5K chips in starting stacks

Replace the T10K with 2x T5K. Colour up the T100s (and T500) with T1000.

It's your choice whether to colour up the T1000 with T5000, since you'd probably have only 5-6 racks on the table by the endgame. Maybe when you're final 3 or heads up?

I agree his videos are great. I’ve been playing for years and I still find useful information in his vids. His color up scheme makes so much more sense than the usual race.

You definitely should replace the 10ks with 5ks because there aren’t enough 5ks in play to make change for a 10k.
And yeah, you really should color up the 1ks as soon as they’re not needed - after level 13. I’d even rearrange the levels or break schedule so it could be done immediately.
If you leave all those 1ks in play, you’re gonna have some assclowns who will be counting them out to make 10k and 20k bets, instead of playing their big chips. Ain’t nobody got time for that.
Using that structure, I’d probably color them up with 10ks. 5ks are fine too.

The right way to do it is to have the big stack buy up chips exactly like the video, but race off the odd chips. Racing is a pain in the ass so I fully endorse rounding up any odd chips.

Frankly though, I just go around the table and buy/round up each player, skipping the step of the big stack buying everything up. Empty racks on the table for collecting the out of play chips, higher denoms in a rack in my hand.

To your question: I wouldn't bother unless it's a night with a lot of rebuys. You can expect your tournament to end right around the 10k/20k blinds on a quiet night (16 buy ins) or the 20k/40k on a busy night (32 buy ins). I'd move your break to the other side of the 8k/16k level and you can assess things there. Definitely get rid of the 10k chip and use 5k's as well.
