new Versa cases (1 Viewer)

I received my versa case today! Its the 1K size. It was a little bigger than I thought it was going to be. But if it is beefier and stronger, it should be a little bigger, that makes sense. It was even kind of heavy before I put the chips in, which is another good sign. It definitely looks cool. I like the darker greys and blacks on it. However, the best part is is that my Copaq case (2 decks) fits perfect in it. I removed 1 divider and its fits perfectly snug in the spot. Once full of chips, its also more comfortable to carry/hold than the 1K acrylic carrier. The handle is wider than what you get on the acrylic carrier, and since it is more narrow, it makes it carry less bulky than the wide acrylic carrier. Also, it looks like it can actually hold about 1050 chips, so you can either add a few chips are have some spacers in place.

Overall, a big thumbs up right now!

I bought some CC Pharaohs from a couple people on this site, so you can see I have some oiling to do now. And I got a couple of Pharaoh dealer buttons from Apache. Overall the set should be able to support a 2 table .25/.50 game or a 2 table 1/2 game. Right now, I only have 1 table, so I am prepared for some growth. I just moved into a new house and neighborhood, so the next quest is to find some new poker buddies!

I’d be int
anyone have new Versa ABS cases from Discount Poker ?
If you’re talking about the black plastic ones, I’d be interested in hearing more reviews. I’m not sure where I read it but I definitely read that the black plastic cases were much closer to junk than to the deluxe cases.

Thanks for taking the time to write and share your review. However, that’s not the ABS version.

Yes, they look quite different (old Versa 500 on left, new Versa ABS 500 on right):

In fact, the ABS version seems to be pretty similar to old cheap aluminum cases with crappy latches and handle:

The prices pretty much back it up, too -- $49.95 for the deluxe, $19.95 for the new ABS case.

Ooops, you're right. Mine is the Deluxe version. I didn't see the other one and realize it was also made by Versa. My bad, sorry!

Sorry to drag up an old thread but does anyone know if Versa discontinued the 500 deluxe case?

Discount Poker Shop lists it as sold out at this moment. You can call or email them to find out if this is (hopefully) temporary.
https://www.discountpokershop.com/poker-chip-cases-c-11.html

It's the only serious quality case other than the more expensive (and overkill, if they travel in you own vehicle) Pelican ones and Peli clones (eg Nanuk in Canada or B&W in Europe).
Pity Versa never produced a nominal 600ct case that could carry up to 750 chips (judging from the fact that the Deluxe, nominal 500ct, carries up to 640, including in 4 tubes in the middle area, instead of card decks etc).

In the 600-900 chip range, a cheaper alternative to waterproof and shockproof Peli clones are aluminium photographic cases with foam (also requiring that you use racks inside), usually with somewhat decent latches and hinges. These (unlike Peli-type ones) should never travel unattended, though, and handled by anybody else than you.

There are also much cheaper faux-Pelis, just water-resistant (not -proof) offered at ridiculously low prices, in the US only.

I've used birdcages for a long time but recently broke the handle of one. Fortunately, I was at home and no chips were harmed in the process. I bought a tool case similar to the photographer cases but was looking for a case that could hold more than 300-400 chips effectively, without having to use racks. It's not a shortage of racks but I like cases that just have the chips in rows for cash games.

No racks means Versa Deluxe, period (pity the 500ct is out of stock, pity they never produced a 600ct, pity their 1000ct has no wheels).
There is also the Versa ABS with a decent protective light-weight shell, but the hinges, latches and handle look as crappy as in the cheap Chinese cases.
Still, the ABS might be an improvement compared to birdcages, if it's intended to travel in your car and handled by you.

I don't know. Even 4 sturdier hard plastic tubes won't fit, width-wise, because of their larger caps.

Got mine in. There's a little piece underneath the rack that slides back and forth against the metal case and it's driving me crazy!

I can't figure out what this piece may be, but probably the phrase "they don't build them like they used to" applies beyond flat 6-cylinder engines:)

Do you think I can pull the tray out? Something must have shaken loose during shipping and it's sliding back and forth.

i got a 500 and 1000 count case of the versa. the latches are way better than the aluminum ones. Also the interior seems to be nicer too. I have about 5 of the crappy cases to compare too. Definitely recommend

them.

@RocAFella1
As Ludwig von Drake (Donald Duck's cousin) put it once, "I only hold 29 Degrees and 72 Diplomas. You should contact a specialist", ie a person craftier than me, in this case:)

So yours doesn't have this problem then I take it?

No it doesn't.
Check also if it has (as it should, being a newer 500ct model, like mine) three hinges on the back. If it has just 2, it must be an older model left in the seller's warehouse shelves.
In that case, I would return it.

Someone was de-stocking. Could be fair if heavily discounted, but not otherwise.

I have both the deluxe and ABS version. I would highly recommend the deluxe. ABS is okay for the price. I dropped it (ABS) once with half-full of chips on a ceramic floor. Didn't crack/scratch and no damage on the hinges. It's lighter than most aluminum case. Only complaint is the spacing on the chip tray. Its too close to each other making it difficult to pick up chips when it's full.
