After 15 years of using a cheap battered set of chips (cough suites and diamonds/ Dice) I used to run a game with I have decided to upgrade as after a few years off I have decided to start hosting again?! I can't possibly get Paulson's past the wife?! This said I'd like a set that will wow my poker friends, and not kill my bank roll! Any advice as to where to turn would be great. Budget Id say 500ish give or take a few 100 depending on the set. I have been researching for a week or so and looking through your forums and classified as long as eBay, and I think every site that sells chips. I was going to start ordering some samples, but figured I'd see if anyone has any great reviews on Majestics/Pharaohs, or Ravenors. I was leaning towards Milanos at one point just for price point, but IDK. I'd love to triple my budget, and maybe I should kick up my game a bit and start saving for a Paulson set. Hit me with your best advice as to what chips you love! I like the more standard casino chip look vs the "fancy" graffics like Tikis? This said for right price Id probably get anything of quality.

Welcome. Many options here. You'll likely be asked several questions: How many chips do you need? (depends on how many people in your typical game). Cash set or Tourney? Do you like ceramics or clay?

I just bought these for a great price. I could used them for tournament (and maybe even small cash game if i just told everyone to divide the denomination on the chip by 100 ($100 chip would be $1, $25 chip would be $0.25).

But there are MANY MANY options out here. Everyone will tell you (and I agree) GET SAMPLES before you buy - to make certain you are getting what you really want. Happy Hunting!!

Welcome to PCF! If you’re looking for chips, you joined the right forum. Like others have said, get samples. Check the classifieds here and the approved vendors. Don’t think you can’t afford Paulsons. Maybe some used casino Paulsons! Enjoy the journey

Agreed - samples are the only way to truly get an idea if you'll be happy or not with your purchase without spending hundreds first. As @Sparty also said, it'd be good to know whether you're playing cash games or tournaments, how many players, and what stakes. That'll help middle down your options and our suggestions. GL!

Thanks all, looking for a Tournament Set for up to 3 Tables. $25 to $5000 demonations. 25/100 being bulk followed by 500. Dont need but a few barrels of rest. I'll keep an eye out for a nice smaller cash game set as well.

Hello and welcome! Congratulations on starting your game back up. I am part of the minority that has a thing for high end plastic chips. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing better than shuffling TRKs or buttery Paulsons. I don’t know what it is, but I love the plastics!
Seems like it’s a buyers market right now; That’s the good news. There are so many awesome chips; not too good for the budget. I find in general, websites outside the pcf vendors to be opaque.
I also love custom chips, not just for security - but because they are more personal. More wow factor, but will come at a premium :)

Welcome to PCF! I wish I had good news for you buy sadly all I can say is prepare to open your wallet!
Im starting to get that feeling, problem with a wife like mine is I get a sweet set of chips, itll cost me a Lou or two!

Hello and welcome,

I think you shall start by :

- Getting few samples from different options (ceramics, hybrids, used Paulson, China Clay, high end plastics, GPI clay promo chips, ...)

- Fine tune your tournament structure. It’ll help you to define how many chips you need. Good starting point is that you decided how many players you want to cover (30). But still, there are other important factor to decide: how long you want the tournament to last (it’ll impact your starting stacks), are re-entry authorized, how many re-entry, do you want bounty, are you only playing no(pot)-limit games or also fixed limits, ...

And then you can do an educated buy.

Kid.

Welcome! Lots of good advice and so many options. I’d suggest ironing out your tourney structure and go from there. The chip estimates on the site is great once you know your starting stacks. A very popular structure for T10k is one of the following:

12/12/5/6 (lots of chippies)
Or
8/8/4/7 (a few less chippies)

The chip estimator will help you account for color ups, rebuys, and add one if you include those in your structure.
