me and some friends have been playing poker for sometime now we are all having kids and the corona crap so we haven't been able to really hang out...
I'm seeking advice on how to buy chips for 6-8 people .25¢/.25¢ how many of each chip and denominations I read not to buy a .50¢ chip cause its a waste or something like that...buy in would probably be $20 or around there..I got a couple ps5s so I'm trying to sell them and buy some custom chips... I'm a big Chicago Bears fan(I know..) so I wanted to get a custom chip theme of bears I've been collecting crap for a while so it just fits... the bears had a game of thrones style bear head for their 100th season last year that I thought would look good on a chip however I can't seem to find the logo just yet..
any advice on pricing where to start who to contact and if anyone has custom nfl style chips id like to get ideas.. thanks!

Hello and welcome to the forum!

You can find lots of advice in the Cash and Tournament section on breakdowns, but if you're playing 0.25/0.25 with $20 buy-ins then you probably want a small set that uses $0.25 and $1 chips as workhorses, with maybe some $5s in case there's lots of rebuys or you get a couple more people.

I would bet a 400-chip set would do fine.
160x $0.25
160x $1
80x $5
Total bank: $600

Not sure what your budget is, but customization can cost depending on what you're starting with.

I would recommend you acquire or sign up for chips samples so you can evaluate different kinds of materials and manufacturers.

Welcome! If you want to keep your buying at about $20, I might recommend playing 5¢/10¢, to allow for more poker to be played, if that makes sense. At those stakes, you could have buy-ins from $10 to $20, which is 100-200 big blinds.

"Future proof" your set, in case you want to raise stakes later to .25/.25, or .25/.50.

Something like:
5¢ x 100
25¢ x 200
$1 x 200
$5 x 160
$25 x 40

Total bank: $2055

Also, probably not exactly what you want to see, but these Packers tourney chips turned out pretty cool.

Great advice here! I’ve played lots of $20 buy poker at .05/.10 and it’s super fun. Most .25/.25 or .25/.50 games I play have buy ins of $50 to $100.

I think low blinds deep stacks is the best poker, personally.

Right? People can make "big plays" for not much money. Our micro stakes game is a ton of fun!

Love that break down Andrew, but 700 custom CPCs would probably run say $1,800 with designer fees? (Think I'm in the ball park?)

8 player even nickle/dime...
(120) $.05
(120) $.25
(140) $1
(100) $5
(20) $20

$1,076 in the bank... 500 chip set would cover...
Starting stacks of 15/13/11/1
Full round of rebuys with 5($1)/3($5)

And plenty more $5s and $20s for additional rebuys.

If you go ceramics and save some money then I would go for the extra chips as @Beakertwang proposed

For a true $.25/$.25
(120) $.25
(160) $1
(180) $5
(40) $20

But that's a standard $100 buy in... like @allforcharity said if the game isn't getting any bigger... his breakdown would work and not cost a lot!

Lots of options on customs... if I was only getting one set and wanted it to last... I would go with hybrid Sunfly 43mm (maybe $1.10 per chip) but again not everyone likes the same thing. Get samples if possible!

Welcome to the forum! For custom chips there is a range from cheap custom ceramics to top-of-the-line CPC clays, get some samples to decide for yourself. As well as check out the prices because there is a huge difference, it all depends how much you are willing to pay. Good luck!

You can start looking for some designers if you dont have experience designing yourself, there is a long queue ahead (I think)

Hello and welcome! I'd also recommend 5c/10c blinds for a $20 buy in.
