New to buying poker chips set (3 Viewers)

Take it slow... you are likely to change your mind multiple times throughout the process.

Couple of questions...
1. What do you play? Cash or Tournament.
2. What do you want to play?

I would just assume the first set won't be your last... so don't spend too much on the beginner set...(or just go all in once and be done with it)

I'm very new here and i am from Canada and i was wondering what a good poker chip set is and where to buy them any help or advice would be very much appreciated.
Welcome!

Some great chipping enthusiasts created this incredible forum dedicated to good poker chip sets, a term that’s as unique as the 2,000,000+ posts here. Do some digging, reading, photo gazing, and you’re likely to dial in quickly the chips that match your desires & budget.

Cheers!

Where are you in Canada? There are a lot of Canadian members here, if you are close to any you may be able to look at some chips in person.

If you stick around you do run the risk of spending much more than you'd ever imagine you'd spend on poker chips. Good luck and enjoy!

Step 1: Gain access to the classifieds

Step 2: Prepare your digital funds and dial in your transfer ability

Step 3: Hold on……. This ride goes fast and it ain’t cheap.

Please keep your hands inside the ride at all times, and stay seated until it comes to a complete stop. Enjoy!

Hello and welcome!

Where in Canada? There are samples available for free evaluation.

There might be a chipper close by to you who may have something you can handle in person.

This is the way. Local chippers are the best chippers (though I DO think I'm a little spoiled...).

That said, welcome aboard! If there is one thing this board loves, it's answering questions. Well, that and debating hot dog sandwich status and the pitfalls of eating near leaded chips. You get the picture. :)

My advice, run away. Run away now and never look back. Only heartache, coventness and bankruptcy will you find down this path.

You can easily spend anywhere from ten cents per chip to ten dollars per chip. And there are just so many variables. So nobody can just tell you what to get. You need to read a lot and buy some samples and ask lots of questions.

Exactly!!! Get/buy samples of any chips you might want to buy. Most poker stores online sell sample sets.

are casino royal chips good?
These?

I think they have their supporters. Depends on your definition of good. Will you be able to play poker with them? Yes. Would I? Not really. If you’re looking for some budget chips I’d much more recommened these other Royals or BRpro ceramics

No one’s gonna be able to tell you what you like though, get some samples and take your time.

Straitpokersupplies.com is the only real poker/gaming store readily available. Items are approx middle of the road quality for the most part but this is a starting point Also I have ordered quite a bit through members and retailers connected to this site.

You cannot find Paulson's or other high end chips in Canada except though this route or eBay etc....

Were do you play? I am in the GTA as near Newmarket

Samples bro….samples. And lots of em!

You seem ready to fall into this hobby pretty hard! Get samples of what you fancy and go from there. Protect your wallet because this place will force you to make some pretty irrational decisions, financially. At least for me, this has been my experience.

@grantc54‘s idea to meet up with a chipper is the best suggestion in this thread. That’s how i started. Got lucky to meet a great local chipper who has lots of chips and let me feel and see. Was a great intro to chips and didn’t cost me a dime.

Welcome to the site my fellow Canadian chipper! Have fun!

Didn't we already Fill our QUOTA of Canucks? (I'm joking!)

I put together a New Members start here page that should outline most aspects of chips, should help you find what you like, don't like and pitfalls of purchasing chips.

Welcome!

This is kinda like writing in to Car & Driver magazine and saying "i was wondering what a good car is and where to buy them any help or advice would be very much appreciated."

Sounds very much like a couple of other trolls surfacing in the [ast week or so...
