Building a new table. Standard 4’x8’ raised lit rail. Looking for some feed back on a curved rail opposite the dealer or a kidney bean shaped table. Anyone with a table like this? Pros and cons? It’s a little more work but is it worth it? I’ve played on one a couple times but not enough to know if it’s worth doing one or not. Also anyone build one like this? Any input? Glad you did or wish you hadn’t? My only thoughts are they look a little better to me (more custom look) and I don’t like the blind spots to other players if seated on the long side. But does this really help that problem much?
Also placement of the betting circle with this odd shape?
First pic is my layout I’m using. Second pic is what I’m thinking about doing.

Hi Steve

when you have a betting line that needs to match the rail. anytime you have a betting line that does not match the rail it looks odd.

its much easier to build the table first then match the dimensions to the cloth.

im on my third table second set of legs. building tables is an art form that im just getting right on my third go.

good luck on the build sir!

Are you using a jigsaw or a router for the cuts? Unless you have a cnc, the kidney shaped tables are much tougher to cut with a router than an oval, they require more complex jigs. IMHO they really don't offer a much better look at the player next to you than sitting next to someone on the straightaway of an oval. They do look cool though :)

Also, 44x92 or 42x92 > 48x96. It’s science. :). A 4x8 table isn’t really standard, and is a hair larger than optimal for a self dealt game. And a dealer cutout is cool, but confirmed sucky if you’re ever going to use it for self dealt. I’d also argue that the dealer cutout only really benefits a full time dealer (like in a casino) over multiple days of dealing professionally. If you’re gonna have a FT dealer once in a while, they should be able to deal just fine on a full rail table.

I’d echo the sentiments of Irish. The ovals are much easier to pull off.

Yeah, I used a router for the outside but probably have to go to a jig saw for the inside because the diffuser I have is only 1/8” thick and the smallest router bit I can find is 1/4”. I cut the table so far for an oval but I was starting to think about doing something different this time. I was thinking about only curving one side and leaving the other side oval. I saw a pic like that and it looked pretty good. It will have a dealer cutout cause I plan to have a dealer mostly but not gonna put in a permanent chip tray so the seat can be used if needed for a self deal game. I’ll probably put in a small padded rail for that position.
My worry is the transition from the curve back to the oval and it looking right. Thanks for all the input. I might just draw it out in the plywood and see if I can picture what it would look like.
