In order to make some samples for a potential licensee order over here we had to attempt to fix the shaped inlay punches which had not been offered for a couple of years.
We managed to do that, but also identified that no matter what we do, we can only punch one hub inlay at a time, 100% manually, and have had to significantly increase the cost of that shape. Orders in the pipeline for shaped inlays will of course have their prices honoured.
A little explanation, as I always try to provide......
The nature of shaped inlays means there is always a higher level of wastage than circular inlays - not just at the punching stage but also after applying them, as they have a greater tendency to move off center. Therefore, there is an intrinsic extra cost for all shapes.
So, the SCA, which can be produced at close to the rate of a round inlay, costs us about 40c extra overall. The COG produces at the same rate but with a fraction more wastage.
The 4-POINTS, 4-NOTCH & TRI-MOON still punch multiples but are slower so there is more labor and overhead. Finally the HUB as mentioned above is a LOT of work.
While the premiums might appear significant and might look profitable for us, I guarantee they are not, and the factory (well Jim in particular as he does the inlay punching) will not thank you for placing large orders on them
You can see the shapes and prices here:

I don't have any samples available for anyone right now as the Horsehead mold is not installed at present and I would have added the samples to the set. I may have a few left over from the ones I've just had made (FDL I believe)
