No need to make a trip there.
Yuck.

I’ll get a snapper because it’s a snapper, but yeah…not especially attractive or high quality at all. I fear ICON chips are going to continue gaining prominence as we move into the future, though, because they have one feature that is truly attractive to casino managers besides meeting security and (minimal) durability standards - they are cheap.

Here are several other locations that use them as well as advertised on Icon's site. RFID chips printed fast and cheap.....I can see these becoming the norm, plus with near flat surfaces they can be sold as easy to clean or low lifespan use becoming economical.

Are these just straight plastic? Yuk. Faux house mold too. Double yuk.

i think icon is some sort of cheap ceramic
the new Nugget chips are Icon but never shuffled any but have a cheap ceramic look

This is what I was looking at on the $5. Do ceramics scratch like this? I thought they were a harder material that didn’t behave like this. At first look this appears like a softer material. Especially considering these are newer chips that probably haven’t been in play too long.

I was just on a Royal Caribbean cruise, and the ICON chips had been washed so many times, the color was the only way to know the chip denomination. And the black $100s were so faded, they were barely distinguishable from the green $20s. Terrible.

And it's funny that they advertise Baha Mar Casino using ICON chips, because they were definitely Paulson house molds.

Yikes. Fingers crossed for Ballys rebranding, though I fear it’ll be more of this.

Rumors has it that the local Twin River casino, which is rebranding to Ballys and remodeling, will open a 50 table poker room within a month or two. If they do it with this icon crap, humanity will weep.

Now is the season of our discontent……

Here’s hoping this trend dies a quick death.

To me ICONs feel almost like a "softer" ceramic. It doesn't have the texture like most do and its more of a smooth finish. That could be one reason why most of the printing doesn't look great.

These casinos really need to take a step back and realize that if they spent a little bit more to get higher quality chips they would be doing great. I've told multiple people that these casinos need to take some younger people like us on here and get us to design the chips. I'm sure literally EVERYONE would love seeing insane looking chips on the tables. Take things back to how they used to be and make chips that people will remember.

Make chipping great again.

We can only hope this goes as horribly as it looks so casinos swear off of this Icon garbage. They might have to break out the secondaries after these break after a couple weeks of use, since it looks like they're on that trajectory.

The fake house mold makes the chips look dirty.

Palms Genius Chip Designer: "Yes, can you please add the hooker juice so we don't have to wait for the hookers to actually handle them to make them look filthy?"
Icon: "Challenge Accepted."

I wish I could agree with this. I think that probably over 90% of the people who play in casinos would not care if the chips were Paulson or Icon. They are there for other reasons entirely.

True, I guess not everyone, but those that are interested in collecting chips would be the ones that would like it.

yes and some of us kept those old refridgerators from our grandparents because they were amazing, still running and colder than any modern fridge......yet come moving time or such you simply don't have enough friends to move them. Would we all have a old school fridge that will never break made out of real domestic steel that could also double a emergency nuclear fallout shelter? of course we could but those days are past :( It could be we are witnessing a shift in chips as well like the shift from lead usage decades ago..... Cost, speed of availability and trackability for ease of exchange will win out in many areas. The metal disc insert is a each cheap proven process used for decades overseas but not made with higher precision and RFID's.... no more counting chips, dump them in a bin and instant totals means less error and more money made by the casino. These features are available with Paulson also but likely the upgrade is significantly less competitive with the less appealing to us ICON chips.

At least now the chip at your department store will be correct when advertising "Casino Weight and Feel"

These are so insanely frustratingly slippery that I’ve actually avoided some big bet games on occasion because they’re just a pain in the ass to play with vs 2/4 or 4/8 chip limit games.

Hate these. Only really bad thing about the property honestly.
