Hello everyone! I'm new to this forum but certainly not new to the poker community. I ultimately signed up because I'm looking to start my own Friday night cash game. I once upon a time had a 2000 piece Ithica chip set from Paulson that I sold for drug money when I was using. I am a person in recovery and have been sober for two years.

Now that I've found my path again, I wanted to order up some more Paulsons. WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED?!

I need help finding the closest possible substitute for my sweet Ithicas. I am also going to be building my own LED lit, high rise, 10 player racetrack poker table in the coming month or two, and would love advice on that as well! Look forward to talking with all of you!

P.S. - Yes, I have seen Rounders and yes, it is a phenomenal movie. I can quote it with the best of them.

Ah, I see.
These go by the acronym 'CDI' around here.
You'll find a lot of PCFers celebrating CDIs.
I bet you'll even get your chance at another set of these chips, if you can avoid the charm of everything else on the site.
Go get 'em.

CDI = Casino De Isthmus

... and to clarify the chips in the photo are the CDI's on the PAULSON CHIPS mold as opposed to the CDI '98's on the THC mold. If you're gonna dive in, may as well upgrade to the 98's.

I suppose my question should be, what chips are out there that are made of the same material as the Paulson CDI for a more modest price? Is there a material considered better than what my chips were made of? The ones I pictured are clay, correct?

You’ll find plenty of RHC chips for reasonable prices in great condition; just search Paulson molds to learn about RHC chips.
You might also find satisfaction in Paulson Classics. They’re exactly the same composition as your CDIs. Different inlay, different mold. They tend to sell for reasonable prices, especially if you’re not a mint condition buyer.

Hello and welcome!

There are two versions of the Paulson CDI.

The original, referred to by us as the CDI98, is on the THC (Top Hat and Cane) mold and generally go for around $2.50-$3.00 per chip in Excellent condition, and sometimes even higher for the rare denominations (0.50, $500, $1000) or with shaped inlays.

A later version, referred to by us as the CDI2005, is on the Paulson House mold and go for about $0.50 to $0.75 less, per chip, than the 98s. I think there's a full set of these for sale right now on eBay, though they're asking a lot.

Good luck in your search, but be warned, you will have lots of competition. Have cash in hand, and be ready to jump!

Welcome! It's a sad world now that paulson doesnt release chips for home use anymore. Bummer to hear you sold your set, but congrats on 2 years! If you stick around you may be able to rebuild a CDI set, but the prices have gone up a bit. There are lots of options available here, and we have vendors that bring us good sales from time to time. Check out some threads on the forum for table builds, lots of info on that here, along with some awesome builds! Good luck on your journey!

Actually, just from reading the PCF whisky and wine threads, it would seem that most of the time, it's chips that drive us *to* drink and drugs...so you might want to watch your step here.
:cool

You might be surprised to hear from sellers who eventually just get tired of waiting for the right buyer and want immediate cash..

Welcome! All of my family on my dad's side is from North Anson. Beautiful country out there. I find Mainers to be, well...interesting...at least my family. :ROFLMAO:

My uncle has 100 acres of blueberry fields he calls his "gahden." My cousin has a reindeer farm. :confused

That's awesome bro! I'm from Waterville, lived in the Portland area during my 20's. Anson isn't too far from Waterville actually. For someone who has lived in this state all his life, I am surprised actually that I don't have that horrible accent. I enunciate the letter 'r.'

Hahaha

Here's a reasonable avenue toward rebuilding your CDI set, keeping your margins relatively low without sinking money into too many chips through one purchase:
Blue $1s, CDI ($2.5/chip) - Link
Red $5s, CDI ($2.5/chip) - Link

Welcome and good luck :)

You can keep an eye on the classifieds section here on the forum for a decent new set, don't forget to share pictures when you get it ;)
